Bills Predicted to Select 17-TD WR in First Round of 2026 NFL Draft to Give Josh Allen a New WR1

Despite prolific offensive success, the Buffalo Bills may still need some additional firepower if they want to maintain their winning ways.

Josh Allen continues to play at an MVP level, but does he have enough help? The Buffalo Bills sit at 9-4, yet their passing attack has not dominated downfield like it did in previous years. With the NFL Draft on the horizon, the front office has a massive opportunity to find the missing piece for its franchise quarterback.

Buffalo Bills Predicted to Select USC WR Makai Lemon

Buffalo currently trails the New England Patriots by two games in the division, a deficit that puts crucial home-field advantage in jeopardy. While Allen shines in PFSN’s QB Impact rankings, his supporting cast has struggled to create explosive plays.

Key targets like Khalil Shakir and the tight ends produce steady numbers, but the offense lacks a consistent vertical threat.

Opposing defenses have started to recognize Allen’s preferred options and adjust their coverages. As the postseason pressure mounts, the Bills need a receiver who can dictate coverage. PFSN writer Ayden Stroupe proposed a draft solution to solve this problem.

“Buffalo seeks offensive playmaking and lands Makai Lemon, a smooth, versatile receiver with natural separation skills. His polished route running and reliable hands make him a perfect complement to Buffalo’s existing weapons. Lemon’s ability to work all three levels expands the offensive playbook. He provides immediate value and long-term security. This is a strong addition for a team transitioning its receiver room.”

On the surface, drafting Lemon might seem redundant next to Shakir. Both players stand around six feet tall and excel at running precise routes. However, the USC product possesses a different gear. Lemon accelerates quickly, allowing him to streak past cornerbacks and stretch the field. Given Allen’s elite arm strength, Buffalo needs this vertical element to prevent defenders from camping on short routes.

This addition would create a dangerous rotation. With Shakir signed through 2029, Lemon could alternate in the slot or take an outside spot. This flexibility would allow the X receiver, presumably Coleman, to thrive downfield and use his vertical jump to win contested catches.

Buffalo has not entirely replaced the production of Stefon Diggs or Gabe Davis over the last few seasons. While the team boasts the top-rated rushing offense, winning in the winter requires a lethal passing game. Allen remains firmly in his prime, so surrounding him with weapons under the salary cap is the logical move. Adding a playmaker like Lemon gives defensive coordinators one more problem to solve.
