The Los Angeles Chargers were looking to get off to a fast start on “Monday Night Football” at SoFi Stadium against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.
One Chargers player, Ladd McConkey, was also hoping to get in on the action. But he’s gotten off to a really slow start.
What Happened to Ladd McConkey?
McConkey wasn’t involved in the Chargers’ touchdown play in the first quarter, but rookie Omarion Hampton, who returned to the lineup on Monday night, got on the board.
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, still dealing with a bandage on his left, non-throwing hand, was able to hit Hampton for a score.

So, what’s up with McConkey? So far, McConkey, who played his college ball with the Georgia Bulldogs, doesn’t have a catch. He’s only been targeted once by Herbert in the game, which is at halftime, and the Chargers are up 10-6.
McConkey was a second-round draft pick (No. 34 overall) by the Chargers in the 2024 NFL Draft. So far in the 2025 NFL season, McConkey has 58 catches for 683 yards and five touchdown receptions. He’s averaged 11.8 yards per catch this season, too.

In Los Angeles’ last five games, four of which were wins, McConkey has three touchdown catches. According to the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, the Chargers star has an impact score of 74.6 and grades out to a C.
For his rookie season in 2024, McConkey had 82 catches for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 14 yards per catch. His longest catch last season was a 60-yarder.
So far on Monday night, Hampton leads the Chargers with two catches for 11 yards and that one touchdown catch. Kimani Vidal, Tre’ Harris, Quinton Johnson, and Keenan Allen all have one catch apiece from the wide receiver position. Allen’s catch didn’t come until late in the first half, though.
With time running out in the first half, Herbert tried to connect with McConkey downfield but overthrew him. As the game goes into the second half, it will be interesting to see if the second-year wideout gets targeted more. Herbert threw an interception with just seven seconds left in the first half, giving the ball back to the Eagles for a potential score.
Early in the fourth quarter, McConkey finally recorded his first reception on the night for 12 yards. McConkey also got free on a third-down play just beyond the line of scrimmage, but Herbert tried to connect with Vidal downfield and threw an incomplete pass.
McConkey has been solid for the Chargers during his one-plus seasons in the NFL. So, what will the second half hold for him? Time will tell.
