What the Falcons Should Do Now That They’re Eliminated From Playoff Contention

Atlanta has been eliminated from playoff contention. Here’s what the team should do going forward.

The Atlanta Falcons took on the Seattle Seahawks in their Week 14 contest. Ahead of the game, Atlanta was 4-8 and third in the NFC South, while Seattle was 9-3 and second in the NFC West. Going into the matchup, PFSN had the Falcons at a 32.1% chance of making the playoffs if they beat Seattle, but they ultimately lost in dominant fashion, 37-9. Atlanta is now eliminated from playoff contention.

Here’s what they should do going forward.

See What They Have and Go From There

The Falcons have four games left against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, and New Orleans Saints. Atlanta is out of the playoffs, so in the meantime, they need to evaluate what they have on the roster and adjust accordingly in terms of who they want to keep and what roster moves they may consider. Just because the postseason is out of reach doesn’t mean the team won’t work hard to get wins in their final games.

Evaluate the Coaches and Possible Changes

Head coach Raheem Morris has apparently been on the hot seat by some, as the Falcons have lost multiple close games this season, and the decision-making of Morris has been in question, as he didn’t call a timeout to try and score before the half in Week 10 against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts won the game in overtime. Morris has only been the head coach for about two seasons now, but the way things have been going, that may change. It’s yet to be seen.

The special teams unit hasn’t performed well this season, either, as kicking has been an issue, as well as kickoff and punt coverage. Atlanta gave up a 100-yard kick return to the Seahawks on Sunday. Special teams coordinator Marquice Williams’ job may be in question due to the unit’s struggles this year.

Look Ahead to the 2026 NFL Draft

With the postseason no longer possible for the Falcons this year, they can look ahead to the 2026 NFL Draft. The Falcons, 16th in PFSN’s Offense Impact metric, need to draft offensive linemen, given the injuries they suffered this season, along with defensive backs due to a struggling secondary and more.

The season didn’t go the way the Falcons wanted, and expectations weren’t met. Now they must plan for the future and figure out how to improve the team so a season like this doesn’t happen again in 2026.
