DK Metcalf has been the leading receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers this year. He was recently asked about Aaron Rodgers’ criticism of his pass-catchers following their loss to the Buffalo Bills last week. His response was interesting as the duo has been trying to get on the same page.
DK Metcalf Responds to Aaron Rodgers’ Criticism
Rodgers has been on stranger to calling out his teammates publicly during his career. His most recent loss against the Bills was a typical example of this. He was asked in a postgame press conference about how he can build a better connection with his receivers. His fiery response was seemingly a direct shot at his teammates.
“When there’s film sessions, everybody shows up. When I check to a route, you do the right route,” said Rodgers.
Metcalf was asked by ‘Sports Illustrated’ for his response to what his quarterback had to say about the Steelers’ receivers after the game. He recorded just three receptions on five targets for 32 yards in their performance against the Bills.
“I didn’t see them. I’m not on social media, so, you know, anything (like that) we talk about during the week. I’m pretty sure he’s going to bring light to it once the game plan is in, and he’s probably going to be very vocal this week about us getting on the same page and about us running the right routes,” responded Metcalf.
He seemed to confirm Rodgers’ accusations that they weren’t all on the same page and some of the receivers may have run the wrong routes at times. Metcalf was then asked how they can do a better job building chemistry with their quarterback.
He said, “It’s just a continual process whether that be verbal or on the field. Whether he’s signaling me something, or if I got a question about a route or a concept off the field, or if I’m thinking about something late at night after practice, or my point of view about something.”
“I think it’s just a steady stream of communication throughout the whole week so we all get on the same page, because I might see something that he doesn’t see and vice versa,” added Metcalf.
The star wide receiver hasn’t quite lived up to his expectations this year when the Steelers made a bold move to acquire him during the offseason. He currently ranks just 27th in his position in PFSN’s Impact Rankings this year. Perhaps focusing more on his chemistry with Rodgers could unlock the player they thought they were getting in Pittsburgh.
