What A Falcons Win/loss vs. Seahawks Would Mean For Their Playoff Hopes

The Atlanta Falcons' season has been unexpected as they're currently 4-8, but a win vs. the Seahawks would help their playoff chances.

The Atlanta Falcons’ season has not gone the way many fans would have hoped. They went into this year with a lot of expectations, especially with the team relatively healthy and a quarterback who had prepared the entire offseason as the starter. But things have not gone well.

With a recent win against the New Orleans Saints and a loss to the New York Jets, the Falcons are currently 4-8 and 3rd in the NFC South. Their playoff chances may be going away as other division teams are rising, but a win this week may do some good.

Falcons Playoff Chances With A Win This Week

They started the season out with a loss against their NFC South division rival, the Tampa Buccaneers, 23-20. They followed that up with a 22-6 Week 2 win against the Minnesota Vikings.

One of their notable losses was against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3, where they were defeated 30-0, which surprised many. Their most surprising win was in Week 6 on Monday night, where they defeated the Buffalo Bills 24-14.

But then they went on a five-game losing streak, including a devastating Week 9, 23-24 loss to the New England Patriots, where they could have won, but kicking and 3rd-down conversions were issues, as they have been throughout the season.

The Falcons will take on the Seattle Seahawks in their Week 14 contest on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Seattle is 9-3 with a recent 26-0 win vs the Minnesota Vikings, while Atlanta is 4-8 with a Week 13, 27-24 loss to the New York Jets.

The Seahawks have been having a tremendous season, while the Falcons have been subpar. Seattle is 2nd in the NFC West behind the 9-3 Los Angeles Rams. This is a must-win game for Atlanta as they ideally need to win out to have the best chance to go to the playoffs, and that part of that was stumped. But the Seahawks being an NFC opponent means a bit more.

PFSN gives the Falcons a 60% chance of making the playoffs if they beat the Seahawks, but if they lose, their chances drop to 10%. The current baseline for the Falcons to make the playoffs is .30%.

The Stakes are high for the Falcons, and quarterback Kirk Cousins and company will need to lead the team to victory. But they’ll have a tough battle ahead of them as the Seahawks are on a roll right now with a two-game win streak.
