The main goal for the Pittsburgh Steelers going into Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears changed the moment it was announced that Mason Rudolph would be handling quarterback duties over Aaron Rodgers for the game.
Unfortunately, the game may prove costly for them beyond the final result. Even as the team has been wildly competitive and held the lead against the Bears for a significant portion of the first half, it may have also cost them their best wide receiver.
What Happened to DK Metcalf?
As the Steelers led 14-7 after a vicious strip sack in the end zone on Caleb Williams, the team was trying to extend their lead on the next drive. On a designed run play for Pittsburgh, Metcalf was part of the blocking unit.
However, his ankle got caught in the exchange. As a physical therapist on X, Tom Christ wrote, “May have a lateral ankle sprain I think I see his ankle getting caught and forced into an inversion moment but hard to see.”

Not the best video but may have a lateral ankle sprain I think I see his ankle getting caught and forced into an inversion moment but hard to see. We’ll see if we get a better view. Hope he’s okay pic.twitter.com/LqEVq4RGJU

As things currently stand, he is questionable to return to the game, after adding two catches for nine receiving yards, and getting two rushing opportunities for 12 more on the ground as well.
Ranked 21st on PFSN’s WR Impact, he’d been a very valuable acquisition for the Steelers in the offseason. Forming a good connection with Rodgers, he tallied 551 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 10 games.
Thankfully, he wasn’t kept out of the game for long and was able to come back. However, Pittsburgh was clearly being cautious with him, as he wasn’t involved in any action after coming back.
Fantasy Outlook After Metcalf’s Injury
DK Metcalf has struggled to find his fantasy football this season. His greatest strength in Seattle was his ability to high-point passes and make plays down the field, something that Arthur Smith has shown no desire to explore this season.
He’s been on the fringes of flexibility when he and Aaron Rodgers (wrist) have been at full strength. With neither currently the case, it’s hard to feel optimistic about not just Metcalf, but any pass catcher in this low-octane offense that would prefer to out-physical you with their three-tight-end sets.
