Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington has always appeared bigger than the 6-foot-7, 264-pound frame listed on the team roster. Anyone who has watched him move defenders as if they were practice dummies suspected the number was not close to reality. Now, after weeks of highlight plays and growing curiosity, the mystery is solved, straight from Washington himself.
Darnell Washington Reveals His True Weight
During Wednesday’s appearance on the “St. Brown Podcast” with Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown, Darnell Washington revealed that he is far heavier than the Pittsburgh Steelers’ official listing.
Pressed by the hosts to give an honest answer, Washington said, “I ain’t finna cap to y’all. I ain’t weigh myself in a minute… OK, OK, I’m gonna give it a buck. I’m 311.”
Upon the disclosure of his true weight, reporters left their comments on X.
“One of the funniest developments of this season has been networks listing Darnell Washington as “300+ pounds” on broadcasts. No matter what the exact weight is … Guy is a moose,” NFL reporter Albert Breer wrote.

“Roster weights can be so wildly outdated,” FOX Sports reporter Greg Auman said.

The number is a 47-pound difference from the listing. Nevertheless, Washington is moving better than ever. He is currently having the most productive receiving year of his career, with 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown.
Washington had an incredible performance in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 34-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He finished with four catches for a career-high 67 yards, but the highlight was a catch-and-run in which he bulldozed through multiple Cincinnati defenders.
He stiff-armed two of them, driving cornerback DJ Turner several yards out of bounds. Washington shared that he had briefly considered hurdling the second defender before deciding to lower his shoulder instead.
“I really thought about jumping,” Washington said on the podcast. “But I was like, nah, he ain’t going low. So, I lowered my shoulder just to continue on down the sideline. Then, DJ Turner, he just tried to punch the ball out, and you know, I just finished the run.”
The tight end’s physicality had led to offensive lineman Spencer Anderson joking earlier this season that Washington should join the offensive line group: “He’s essentially one of us.”
Washington has a 76.6 score on PFSN’s TE Impact metric, with a C grade. He ranks 22nd among all tight ends this season.
