NFL Bye Weeks: Which 4 Teams Are on Bye in Week 12?

Four NFL teams hit a crucial Week 12 break as injuries, inconsistency and shifting momentum shape their paths for the stretch run.

The NFL schedule is tightening, but Week 12 pauses the season for four teams navigating crucial turning points. Each enters the bye with its own set of problems or momentum shifts, and the break arrives at a moment that could define what comes next.

The story behind these pauses is more complicated than the standings suggest.

Which Teams Enter Week 12 As NFL Bye Weeks?

Four teams are idle in Week 12: the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and Washington Commanders.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos’ break comes after a string of injuries that have reshaped the roster. The team placed J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve after he suffered a serious Lisfranc injury in Week 10, and reports indicate that he is unlikely to return unless the team reaches the Super Bowl.

The Broncos now have ten players on IR heading into the bye, including Drew Sanders and Ben Powers, who could return later.

Meanwhile, Michael Burton, Nick Gargiulo, Johnny Walker, and Matt Henningsen are on season-ending IR. The Broncos have used four of their eight allowed return designations, including one for Sanders, who is expected to be activated soon. The Broncos use this week to recover, but the depth issues remain a concern.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers reach their bye on the heels of a blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team’s 7-4 record masks the instability across its offensive line. Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt suffered season-ending injuries, creating cascading adjustments that weakened both tackle spots.

Mekhi Becton, Bobby Hart, and Trey Pipkins III are dealing with nagging injuries, leaving Zion Johnson and Bradley Bozeman as the only linemen to start all 11 games.

Justin Herbert was pressured heavily against Jacksonville and finished with a career-low 81 passing yards, a performance shaped by both the Jaguars’ defense and the Chargers’ inability to protect him. The break offers a chance to stabilize, but the problems are structural.

Washington Commanders

For the Commanders, the bye arrives during a six-game losing streak. Dan Quinn said, “What do we want to emphasize? What things need to be changed?” He stressed improving areas like red zone and third down execution while using the second half of the season to show growth. They return in Week 13 against the Broncos.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins enter the bye trending upward after winning three of four. Mike McDaniel’s run schemes are finally producing, powered by De’Von Achane’s surge and improved offensive line cohesion.

However, red zone execution remains a problem, particularly after injuries to Darren Waller and Tyreek Hill. The Dolphins sit at an intersection of progress and concerns, and the bye week will determine which direction prevails.

Week 12 marks the second-to-last pause in the NFL’s bye schedule. After this week, only one more slate of byes remains, coming in Week 14, when four additional teams will take their turn off. With the season entering its decisive phase, these final byes highlight how close the league is to the full sprint toward the postseason.
