American star Reilly Opelka and hosts of the “Nothing Major Show” have recently shared their thoughts on the ATP and WTA players taking their offseason trip to the stunning Indian Ocean island of the Maldives following season-schedule complaints. The World No. 50 was last seen in action at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Hellenic Championship, where he was defeated in the round of 32 by Vit Kopriva.
Reilly Opelka and Hosts of “Nothing Major Show” Discuss Maldives Vacation Spot
Reilly Opelka delivered impressive performances in his 2025 season, starting with the Brisbane International, where he reached the final round before retiring due to back pain. At the Australian Open, he reached the second round and quarterfinals of the Dallas Open and Swiss Indoors Basel.
At the Open Aix Provence Crédit Agricole, he also reached the quarterfinal round and the semifinal round of the Libéma Open. During his recent appearance on the “Nothing Major Show,” Opelka shared his thoughts on how unusual it is for players to take a vacation to the Maldives, given their year-round travel schedule and frequent complaints about the season schedule.
The winner of four ATP singles and one doubles title mentioned, “It’s weird. I actually don’t have any explanation for it. My logic is that we travel. Every player has, myself included, has complained that the season is way too long, which it is. And we travel. We travel 40 weeks, like a year. We get to come home. It’s just a bit odd that you want to end your season and then you want to take your suitcases and then you want to fly 14 hours.”
To which John Isner added, “Riley’s point still remains, though. It’s like you’re leaving the last term of the year and you’re immediately going on a holiday. To Sam’s point earlier, he’s saying that they’re going down there because they’re getting 20, 30 grand of stuff for free, their stay, their food.”
The former ATP star, who clinched 16 singles titles and eight doubles titles, highlighted the group’s collective thought, continuing, “We all agree it’s nuts to immediately go from as soon as the last tournament ends to go on another vacation. I know it looks pretty nice, but it’s an absolute epidemic at this point.”
