Bill Belichick’s NFL Return in Jeopardy As UNC Situation Turning Giants Away

Insider Albert Breer talks and highlights the issues that Bill Belichick faces for his NFL return amid Giants coaching job links.

Bill Belichick is finally turning the North Carolina ship around. However, fans still question how long he will remain in college football. Now, it appears that the New York Giants’ situation has reignited discussions of an early exit.

However, NFL insider Albert Breer is not yet convinced that Belichick is the ideal candidate for the Giants’ job. He believes the former Patriots head coach’s past link might prompt the Giants to have an initial conversation, but might eventually decide against the move.

Bill Belichick Fading Away from New York Giants’ Job Search

Breer, who appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub, detailed the chances Belichick had to make a switch to the NFL. The Giants have recently made some questionable decisions in hiring coaches, and Breer also pointed this out.

“I don’t think they’re great. I just think the Giants are going to look at this from a big picture perspective,” Breer said. The NFL insider then emphasized that the Giants would conduct a thorough assessment, and that’s where Belichick might falter.

He added, “Yeah, they’re going to look at everything. But I have a hard time seeing that being the conclusion that they come to. Um, you know, I just look at like the makeup of their team, where they are.”

“You know, I think they owe it to themselves to talk to him (Bill Belichick), and I think they probably will talk to him. But I think a lot of things would have to be right.”

When the fans factor in the drama that Michael Lombardi and Jordon Hudson have brought inside the UNC doors, it sends all the wrong signals to the NFL teams in a head coach’s need. Moreover, there is a lack of credible candidates as assistants. It was Matt Patricia, who accompanied him at the Patriots, and is now at Ohio State.

Breer continued, “So, what have you seen at North Carolina that would convince you that all of a sudden, he’s going to put together an NFL staff, again?”

Belichick worked as the Giants’ defensive coordinator from 1985 to 90, and those links would have helped in making a case for himself. Not to mention his 2 Super Bowls during his tenure there. But when the fans examine the UNC situation, marked by a negative spotlight and poor on-field performances, he becomes a volatile commodity.

However, the fans have started to see some signs of a typical Belichick team. With a 4-5 record, they are still in the running for a bowl game. PFSN’s College Football Playoff metric ranked the Tar Heels as the 76th team. The eyes will follow Belichick closely when he is on the sideline when North Carolina meets Wake Forest this Saturday.
