Jermod McCoy is a cornerback from Tennessee who is ranked No. 20 on my NFL Draft Top 100 Big Board. This comprehensive scouting report analyzes McCoy’s draft potential, current mock draft trends, and where he ranks among the top prospects.
Jermod McCoy’s NFL Draft Potential
Jermod McCoy was my preliminary CB1 entering the 2025 regular season, but he hasn’t suited up once yet for the Volunteers, as he’s still in the end stages of a recovery from a torn ACL suffered late last year. His CB1 mantle is in danger of being taken, but we shouldn’t forget how good McCoy is.
He logged an almost elite PFSN CFB CBi score of 87.9 in 2024, and he logged an early-to-mid first-round preliminary grade on my scale. McCoy’s alien reduction ability, hip sink, and plant-and-drive explosiveness are all reminiscent of Darius Slay, and he has the playmaking ability to convert and generate turnovers as well. His injury places his current status for the 2026 NFL Draft in limbo, but if he can come back and finish strong in 2025, it could be enough to secure a top 50 selection.
CFB Week 9 Update
Jermod McCoy has yet to go through a full practice or be exposed to practice contact, as the Tennessee Volunteers enter their final four-game stretch of the regular season. With the Volunteers on the outside looking in for the CFB Playoffs and an extended postseason run, McCoy may have a decision to make about his future. Off his 2025 tape, he’s a first-round player — but questions surrounding his ACL recovery and overall medicals have clouded his stock from the start.
CFB Week 10 Update
McCoy did not play in Tennessee’s Week 10 clash with the Oklahoma Sooners. He has finally returned to practice, but an exact timeline for his return still remains unclear, and the window for him to return in 2025 is closing fast — especially with a loss to Oklahoma that likely takes Tennessee out of the playoff race.
CFB Week 11 Update
Tennessee was on a bye in Week 11. They’ll return to action in Week 12 against the New Mexico State Aggies.
Where Is McCoy Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?
McCoy currently holds the No. 17 overall rank among prospects, placing him among the first-round caliber prospects. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 16.2 as of November 11 reflects that he is typically being selected in the first round.
This small gap between rank and ADP suggests he’s consistently valued among evaluators, even amid fluctuations in player evaluations at this stage of the draft cycle.
Users controlling the Minnesota Vikings have been the team that selected McCoy the most frequently over the past week, accounting for 4.0% of their picks across all seven rounds. Notably, 19.6% of the Minnesota Vikings’ first-round selections over that same period were used on McCoy, underscoring users’ strong preference for him as a potential immediate-impact cornerback.
