The Calgary Flames entered the new season with renewed optimism after bringing in goaltender Ivan Prosvetov and making several roster adjustments. However, the results have yet to match their expectations. The team continues to search for stability, struggling to generate offense while dealing with defensive lapses that have left them at the bottom of the Pacific Division standings.
While some of the newcomers have shown glimpses of promise, the Flames’ lack of chemistry and consistency has raised questions about whether more changes are coming. With trade speculation already surrounding the team, one of Calgary’s top defensemen has found himself at the center of growing attention.
Is a Former Maple Leafs Enforcer Pushing for Calgary’s $27.3 Million Star to Move?
Rasmus Andersson, who has long been a key part of the Calgary Flames’ defensive core, is the latest name caught in trade speculation. A familiar voice from Toronto’s past sparked discussion this week when former Maple Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill shared a post on X, writing, He wrote, “I guess the Maple Leafs are working hard to get Rasmus Anderson out of Calgary. Not sure what they’d have to give to get him tho.”
Rosehill’s post ignited immediate discussion among fans about whether the Flames might consider moving one of their most valuable defensemen.
Anderson, who is in the final year of a six-year, $27.3 million contract, remains an important piece of Calgary’s defense. He averages heavy minutes each night and contributes both defensively and offensively, even as the Flames battle through one of their roughest starts in recent memory.
Hockey insider Steve “Dangle” Glynn reacted to the post with his own dose of realism, saying, “The Flames might make a trade with the Leafs. But once again, I’m gonna tap the sign, that the Flames and Leafs have been rumoured in a billion deals that haven’t happened since Brad got here.”
Glynn’s response pointed out how common, yet rarely accurate, trade chatter between these two clubs has been in recent years.
Earlier reports from Pierre LeBrun of TSN suggested that Calgary is keeping its options open. In September, LeBrun explained, “Everyone is an adult in the room. He’s ready to play his best for the Flames. The Flames are happy to have him back… but I think more than likely a trade is still the likeliest option before the March 6 trade deadline.”
The player himself addressed the rumors in August during an interview with Sweden’s Expressen, denying any trade request. Anderson clarified, via hockeyfeed.com, “I have not given Calgary a team. I haven’t actually spoken to Calgary since they made the request, which was a month and a half ago.”

As the Flames continue to search for stability, the uncertainty surrounding their top defenseman remains a significant topic of discussion. Whether a trade actually happens or not, the conversation has once again placed Calgary’s blue line under a spotlight it can’t seem to escape.
