Gauff arrived at this year’s WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, as the defending champion, placed in the Steffi Graf group alongside elite contenders Jessica Pegula, Aryna Sabalenka, and Jasmine Paolini. She opened with a three-set loss to compatriot Pegula, 3–6, 7–6(4), 2–6, putting early pressure on her title defense. The American responded with a confident 6-3, 6-2 victory against Paolini in the second match, but top-ranked Sabalenka proved too strong in the decisive group match.
The Belarusian was tested early but held her nerve to claim a tight opening set, 7-6(5). She then seized full control in the second, racing to a 6-2 win to end Gauff’s campaign in Riyadh and her 2025 season. As Gauff reflected in her Instagram post, the year had its challenging moments, but the achievements and progress she made stood out far more prominently.

Meanwhile, her father, Corey Gauff, praised his daughter’s growth and reminded her that setbacks fuel comebacks, encouraging her to enjoy life and pursue her dreams.
