The Green Bay Packers enter their Monday night showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles with growing concerns at wide receiver. Rookie Matthew Golden and third-year wideout Dontayvion Wicks are both listed as questionable, putting added pressure on an already thin pass-catching group.
With fans anxious for updates, the spotlight now turns to whether Wicks will be available in a critical primetime matchup.
Will Dontayvion Wicks Play Against the Eagles?
Wicks exited the second half of the Packers’ Week 7 win over the Arizona Cardinals with a calf injury and did not return. He missed all subsequent practices and was ruled out for both Week 8 and Week 9 against the Steelers and Panthers.
However, Wicks returned to the field on Thursday and logged limited participation in all three practice sessions leading up to Monday Night Football, signaling encouraging progress. While the Packers officially listed him as questionable, head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters on Tuesday that Wicks could “potentially” return in Week 10.
After three full weeks of rest, there’s a strong chance the third-year receiver suits up against Philadelphia, even if on a limited snap count.
Through six games, Wicks has recorded 13 receptions, though injuries and inconsistent usage have capped his production. According to PFSN Impact metrics, his best performance came in Week 2, where his score was 76.0 with a C grade.
The Packers have missed his presence, especially as other offensive players continue to go down. Tucker Kraft (knee) and Golden (shoulder) were both injured in the loss to Carolina, while Jayden Reed remains unavailable.
That leaves Romeo Doubs, Malik Heath, and tight ends Luke Musgrave and John FitzPatrick as the team’s only fully healthy pass catchers. Christian Watson’s return from a torn ACL also helped ease the burden.
For now, with the group running thin, promoting from within makes sense, as those players already know the playbook and have chemistry with quarterback Jordan Love.
Wicks’ Fantasy Outlook
The calf injury continued to keep Dontayvion Wicks sidelined over the weekend, and given the number of viable threats in this passing game, you’d have to be in an awfully tight spot to consider holding on.
The third-year man hasn’t reached 45 receiving yards in a game this season and has one touchdown to his name over the past calendar year.
I’m not sure we know who the right answer is when it comes to WR1 duties in Green Bay, but we know that Wicks’ hype isn’t in the ring.
