Aryna Sabalenka Opens Up About Vacation Plans and Not Being Around Tennis Players During Off-Season

Sabalenka is currently in Riyadh, competing at the 2025 WTA Finals. She is the top seed and began her campaign by defeating Jasmine Paolini in her opening group stage match. The World No. 1 then went on to overcome Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, advancing to the semifinals. In the semifinals of the season-ending tournament, she will face Amanda Anisimova, with the winner set to compete against either Pegula or Elena Rybakina in the final.

While speaking to Tennis.com in Riyadh, Sabalenka discussed her offseason plans. She mentioned that she is asking other tennis players where they plan to go for vacation during their break from the Tour, so that she can avoid those locations.

The four-time Grand Slam champion expressed that, although she enjoys the atmosphere of being around fellow tennis players on the Tour, she prefers to have some time away from them during the offseason.

“I’m actually asking around, you know, like, ‘Where are you going, guys?’ So, yeah, I’m hoping that we’re not gonna, like, can you imagine like, if you land and there’s, like, bunch of tennis players! Come on, guys. I will leave! I love the atmosphere. But you know, like, for the offseason, I prefer not to be around tennis players!” Sabalenka said.

Sabalenka confirmed that she and her boyfriend, Frangulis, plan to spend their downtime in the Maldives.

“I’ve never been to Maldives. Yeah, it’s already planned. Tickets, actually, I think my boyfriend already bought tickets. But I’m trying not to think about that, you know, a bit too early. Like, still have, hopefully, a couple matches to go,” she added.

This year has been brilliant for Sabalenka, as she has won four titles so far, including the 2025 US Open. In Grand Slam tournaments, she finished as the runner-up at the Australian Open and the French Open, losing to Madison Keys and Gauff in the finals, respectively. At the Wimbledon Championships, she reached the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Anisimova.

At the New York Major, Sabalenka successfully defended her title by defeating Anisimova with a score of 6-3, 7-6(3) in the final, claiming her second US Open singles title and her fourth Grand Slam singles title overall. She also won two WTA 1000 tournaments: the 2025 Miami Open and the Madrid Open, triumphing over Pegula and Gauff, respectively.

The World No. 1 secured her fourth title of the season at the 2025 Brisbane International, which she won by defeating Polina Kudermetova in the championship match.
