The Jacksonville Jaguars’ receiving corps continues navigating significant injury concerns as they prepare for their Week 10 matchup against the Houston Texans. Brian Thomas Jr. exited Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders with an ankle injury. Will fantasy football managers have their top receiver available this week?
Brian Thomas Jr. Injury Update
Thomas did not appear during the part of Thursday’s practice that was open to reporters. He also missed Wednesday’s session because of a low-grade high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders. His continued absence raises more questions about whether he will play in the Jaguars’ Week 10 game against the Texans.
A low-grade sprain usually is not a long-term injury, but high ankle sprains still need plenty of rest and can be painful. Players often miss at least a week. Adam Schefter first reported that Thomas had “a chance” to play, but missing two practices in a row makes it less likely he will be available. The Jaguars also put rookie Travis Hunter on injured reserve, so the team is short on receivers and Thomas’s status is even more important.
If Thomas cannot play, Parker Washington will probably take over as the main receiver, but the group is still thin. The Jaguars just added Jakobi Meyers, who should play, but he may not see much action right away as he gets used to the team.
Fantasy managers should be ready in case Thomas misses Week 10. Even if he does play, his injury and Houston’s strong defense could limit his performance.
We will know more after Friday’s practice report, but for now, Thomas missing Thursday’s practice is a strong sign he may not play in Week 10.
Thomas Fantasy Outlook
Thomas is having a tough second season after a great rookie year. So far, he has only one WR1-level performance and just two games with more than 12.0 fantasy points in nine weeks.
Should Thomas miss the game, along with Travis Hunter being on IR, the Jaguars will be facing a significant shortage at wide receiver. By default, Washington would become the primary target in the passing game, although his abilities do not instill much confidence as a lead receiver.

Meyers, who was just traded to the team this week, is expected to play. Since he’s only had four days to learn the playbook and get used to working with Trevor Lawrence, he probably won’t see a lot of snaps. He’ll get on the field, but his role should be limited while he gets comfortable with the offense.
Jacksonville’s offense faces another challenge this week because Houston has one of the best defenses in the league. The Texans are especially good at stopping big plays and making things tough for opposing quarterbacks.
This game will likely be low scoring, with the Jaguars expected to have a tough time on offense because they don’t have many healthy receivers. Houston’s defense can take advantage by putting extra coverage on Washington.
If you have Thomas on your fantasy team, it’s a good idea to have a backup plan for Week 10. Even if he plays, his high ankle sprain will probably limit him, so he’s a risky start. With a tough matchup and not much help around him, it’s best to avoid starting anyone from Jacksonville’s passing game this week.
Washington is only worth considering as a WR3 or flex if you don’t have better options, but his potential is limited by tough coverage and extra attention from the defense. Meyers should stay on your bench until we see how much he’ll be involved.
