The Dallas Stars have had a mixed season so far. Despite being one of the favorites, the franchise has suffered multiple losing streaks and has dropped some easy games. However, despite that, the team is somehow holding on, and Jason Robertson has been a big part of that.
With 11 points across 13 games, he is driving the Stars’ offense as they try to remain in contention for the playoff race. However, what made the fans even more excited were his recent comments about his future in the NHL with the Dallas Stars.
What Did Jason Robertson Have to Say About His Future With the Dallas Stars?
The Stars have been one of the standout teams in the league over the past few seasons, with the franchise reaching the Conference Finals three consecutive times. However, this season they have struggled under the new head coach, Glenn Gulutzan.
Robertson has been one of the biggest victims of this new coaching. Last season, under former head coach Peter DeBoer, he was the Stars’ top-used forward until Mikko Rantanen arrived. Not to mention, with 80 points in 82 games, his playmaking and goal-scoring were elite.
This season, however, his numbers have been significantly lower than expected, and for the first time in his career, he is scoring less than anticipated. This year, he has just three goals on 8.5 xG. Not to mention, he has also entered the last year of his four-year, $31 million deal this season.
With his struggling form under the new head coach and his contract expiring next summer, fans have been concerned about their star player. However, during his recent visit to AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, Robertson mentioned that he would love to play at the venue.
The Stars are scheduled to play at the Stadium in 2027 as part of the Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2027. While their opponents are yet to be decided, the fans and players alike are hyped up for the event.
Some players, including Robertson, recently visited the stadium before one of their games. Looking at the venue, he mentioned, “It’s a little overwhelming, pretty cool though. I don’t think it’s real. I think this is kind of like the gold standard stadiums in the whole world.”
Robertson expressed his desire to play at the Cowboys’ stadium for an open-air game, describing the atmosphere as simply electrifying. While his contract is set to expire next season, these comments put faith in the fans that he might re-sign in 2026.
“I mean, it’s just going to be a surreal moment,” Robertson said about playing in front of the fans. While 2027 is still more than a year away, Gulutzan is making sure that the forward is getting more time on ice this season.
Combined with his wish to play at the AT&T, there’s a big chance that he will stay in Dallas beyond next year.
