Stan Wawrinka vs Botic Van de Zandschulp Preview: Head-to-Head, Prediction for Hellenic Championships 2025

Stan Wawrinka will face Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round of the 2025 Hellenic Championships. Here’s a preview of the match.

Former major champion Stan Wawrinka will look to begin his campaign at the 2025 Hellenic Championships as he takes on Botic Van de Zandschulp in the first round. Wawrinka, now a spent force at this stage of his career, has not made it past the second round at any tour-level events this year. The Swiss player has fared slightly better on the Challenger Tour, reaching finals at the Aix-en-Provence Challenger and the Rennes Challenger.

Meanwhile, Van de Zandschulp has also struggled in 2025, faltering in the early rounds of most events he has played. His only two meaningful runs came in Kitzbuhel, where he reached the semifinals, and at Winston-Salem, where he finished runner-up to Marton Fucsovics in the final.

Wawrinka vs Van de Zandschulp Head-to-Head

Wawrinka vs Van de Zandschulp Prediction

At his peak, Wawrinka reached five indoor hard-court finals in his career, winning one title. His only indoor hard-court title came at the 2015 Rotterdam Open, where he defeated Tomas Berdych in the final.

Van de Zandschulp has not reached a tour-level final on indoor hard courts. The Dutch player’s only hard-court final came at Winston-Salem this year. He has reached a few indoor finals on the Challenger Tour, including a victory at the Hamburg Challenger in 2019.

Coming into the Hellenic Championships, Wawrinka’s indoor form has been mixed. He lost in the second round at the Swiss Indoors and at the Bratislava 2 Challenger but reached the indoor hard-court final at the Rennes Challenger, losing to Hugo Gaston. Van de Zandschulp, on the other hand, has had no meaningful runs at any indoor events this year, with second-round exits at Brussels and Basel and failing to qualify for the Paris Masters.

Given that Wawrinka recently reached an indoor Challenger final, the Swiss will have a slight edge going into the match.

Pick: Wawrinka to win in three sets
