Buccaneers Predicted To Trade for 22-TD Playmaker After Injuries to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin Jr.

Buccaneers eye 22-TD playmaker trade after injuries to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin Jr., seeking offensive boost and scoring firepower.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a tough spot. After losing two key wide receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin Jr., to significant injuries, the team’s offense has been left short-handed and searching for answers. Evans suffered a broken clavicle in the Week 7 loss to the Detroit Lions, while Godwin remains sidelined with a fibula injury.

With two of the franchise’s top pass-catchers out, one analyst believes Tampa Bay might look to the trade market for a proven playmaker before the 2025 NFL trade deadline.

Could a Trade for Jakobi Meyers Solve Tampa’s Receiver Crisis?

According to PFSN NFL analyst Bjorn Bergstrom, the Buccaneers could try to acquire Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers as a ready-made replacement to fill the void left by Evans. Meyers has built a reputation as one of the NFL’s most reliable route-runners, and his production speaks for itself.

Across seven seasons with the New England Patriots and Raiders, he has recorded 22 total touchdowns, including 20 receiving and two rushing scores, along with nearly 5,000 receiving yards.

Bergstrom believes the fit would be seamless. “If the Bucs were to trade for Meyers, he would be a hand-in-glove fit in filling Evans’ spot,” he wrote in his column. “He may not have the high-level talent Evans has, but he’s a consistent veteran who would mesh well with quarterback Baker Mayfield’s aggressive, tight-window throwing style.”

Despite the Las Vegas Raiders’ inconsistent offense and struggles, Meyers has continued to be a solid producer in the 2025 campaign. The team currently holds a 2-5 record and sits at the bottom of the AFC West after a 31-0 blowout loss to their divisional rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. His reliability makes him a natural target for a team suddenly in need of big-bodied receivers.

According to the PFSN Wide Receiver Impact Rating, Meyers has a score of 75.4, ranking him No. 44 in the league so far this season. Through six games in 2025, he has caught 29 passes for 329 yards with a 67.4% completion rate. Over his seven-year career, Meyers has logged 422 receptions for 4,921 yards.

Adding to the speculation, Meyers requested a trade during training camp after failing to reach an agreement with the organization on a contract extension. Although he is still with the Raiders, who have kept him due to his solid performance on a struggling team, their willingness to deal him may have changed. With the trade deadline approaching on November 4 at 4 p.m. ET, Las Vegas might be more open to moving Meyers than before.

The wide receiver is in the final year of a three-year, $33 million contract he signed with the Raiders in 2023, which carries an average annual value of $11 million.

Given his consistent production, his trade value is projected to be around a Day 2 draft pick. For the Buccaneers, pairing a reliable veteran like Meyers with speed options such as Emeka Egbuka and Tez Johnson could help restore balance to the offense and enable them to maintain their lead in the NFC South despite recent setbacks from injuries.
