Coming off their win over the Miami Dolphins, the Baltimore Ravens were met with a hefty fine. They weren’t able to celebrate their win for too long as the NFL finally concluded its investigation and announced the punishment for the team. QB Lamar Jackson finally returned to the field in Week 9 after most of the world expected him to return in Week 8.
After the Ravens incorrectly listed him on their practice report, the NFL knew they had something to look into. Ultimately, they felt they had no choice but to issue a substantial fine, regardless of whether their actions were intentional.
NFL Hands Baltimore Ravens $100K Fine
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo broke the news, “The NFL has fined the Baltimore Ravens $100,000 for violating the league’s Injury Report Policy by incorrectly listing quarterback Lamar Jackson’s practice participation status on Friday, October 24.”
Exactly one week later, the fine has been dealt. The Ravens knew they had a short week to prepare for the Dolphins, so their decision to save Jackson for this game instead of the Bears proved to be effective. In all likelihood, they would’ve beaten Miami with Tyler Huntley at QB, but that’s not the point.

Adam Schefter took a further look into the situation and wrote, “The NFL believes the violation was the result of negligence, not an attempt to gain a competitive advantage.”
“If the investigation had determined the violation was intentional or competitive in nature, the discipline would have been more significant, including the potential loss of draft picks,” he continued. “The Ravens cooperated fully with the investigation.”

Baltimore must face the consequences and pay the full $100,000. As Schefter mentioned, things could’ve been much worse. In the end, Baltimore got out of the situation with a fine that was less than the New York Giants received for their handling of QB Jaxson Dart’s concussion protocol. New York’s fine was $200K, exactly double that of Baltimore’s.
Moving forward, Jackson is back to being his MVP self. His return on October 30 marked his first appearance since he went down against the Kansas City Chiefs on September 28. The Ravens improved to 3-5 on TNF as they prepare for one of the easiest remaining schedules in the entire league.
Jackson, despite missing all that time, is ranked fourth among the quarterbacks in the league based on PFSN’s QB Impact Metric. His grade reflects just how well he’s been playing this season, and the Ravens’ record doesn’t tell the full story. If he continues to throw four touchdowns on a weekly basis, there’s no reason to believe this team can’t turn things around and sneak its way into the playoffs.
