Kyler Murray Trade Rumors Shut Down By Arizona Sports Radio Host

You can never say never, but there's been no discussions around Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray being traded at the NFL Trade Deadline.

With the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline four days away, there will be numerous names thrown around as potential trade candidates. However, don’t expect Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray to be on the move.

With the Cardinals sitting at 2-5, and Arizona playing well over the last two weeks against tough competition despite Murray’s absence, questions have arisen about his starting status.

Despite quarterback Jacoby Brissett playing well each of the last two weeks, Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon has made it clear that when Murray is healthy, he’s the starter.

Is There a Chance Kyler Murray Gets Traded?

You can never say never, especially in this day and age in the sports world – just ask Dallas.

However, it’s highly unlikely the Cardinals will trade Murray at the deadline.

On Friday morning, Arizona Sports Radio Talk Show host John Gambadoro, who’s been at it for almost 30 years, gave his thoughts on the Murray trade rumors on social media.

“No Kyler Murray is not getting traded. There have been no calls for him and they are not shopping him,” Gambodoro wrote on X. “Now you are never supposed to say never but I don’t see any team calling to make a blockbuster offer.”

Despite the Cardinals’ rough start to the 2025 season, it doesn’t really make much sense to trade Murray. He’s one of the most versatile quarterbacks in the league, and Arizona has already signed him long-term.

The Cardinals signed Murray to a 5-year, $230.5 million extension in 2022, and they have a club option to keep him in Arizona through 2028.

Murray was the Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Bowl twice in his first three years in the NFL. Even though the Cardinals’ quarterback has struggled since his extension, it has been due to injury more than anything else.

In his lone healthy season since his extension, Murray threw for 3,851 yards and 21 touchdowns, and added 572 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Plus, Brissett is 32 years old, and he’s not the answer for the future. If the Cardinals were to trade Murray away, they’d be looking to the draft to find their next guy, which is the same spot they were in 2019 when they drafted Murray.

You also have to look at what it would take to trade Murray away. If the Cardinals looked for a trade partner, it would have to be a team that believes in Murray based on his performance and would take on his current contract.

Then, they’d have to be willing to give up whatever the Cardinals would be asking for. Murray is a former first-overall pick and the quarterback the Cardinals have paid for the future.

Arizona would likely look for either another quarterback and a second or third-round pick, or multiple first or second-round picks in return. With Murray’s contract and his recent track record, that’s a pretty steep price.

However, there’s also the angle of the Cardinals still believing this season can turn into something. Arizona has been close in all of its games and has led in the fourth quarter in six of its seven games.

If the Cardinals just flip a couple of those around, the season looks completely different. However, because of those close losses, Arizona is in a tough spot.

Murray still has plenty of potential at just 28 years old, and he’s played well this season when healthy. The Cardinals quarterback is ninth in the NFL in both completion percentage and passing yards per game, according to PFSN’s QB Impact.

You can never say never, but there are no signs indicating that the Cardinals are even considering trading Murray with the NFL Trade Deadline less than a week away.
