A historic moment for American tennis unfolded as both Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz secured their spots at the upcoming ATP Finals in Turin. This marked the first time two Americans had qualified for the prestigious event in the same year, following the achievements of former US Open champion Andy Roddick and James Blake in 2006.
In fact, this milestone even drew celebratory reactions from their compatriots and WTA stars Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys and former world No. 13 Jennifer Brady.
How Did Jessica Pegula and Jennifer Brady React to Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz’s Qualification for the ATP Finals?
Fritz recently wrapped up his campaign at the 2025 Paris Masters, where he entered the draw as the fourth seed and received a bye into the second round. However, his run ended earlier than expected, as the 13th seed, Alexander Bublik, defeated him in the third round. While that result proved disappointing for his supporters, a major positive soon followed.
The American officially secured his place at the ATP Finals, set to begin on Nov. 9, after Lorenzo Musetti’s second-round exit in Paris confirmed Fritz’s qualification on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Shelton has continued his impressive run in Paris, advancing to the quarterfinals with a commanding straight-sets victory over Andrey Rublev. His progression not only keeps him in contention for a deep finish but also secures his place at the upcoming ATP Finals. The qualification marks a major milestone, as Shelton will make his debut at the season-ending event.
With this, Shelton and Fritz will join a formidable draw that includes world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, No. 2 Jannik Sinner, 24-time Major champion Novak Djokovic, world No. 3 Alexander Zverev, and Australian standout Alex de Minaur.
Their achievement gave American tennis plenty to celebrate, and compatriot Jessica Pegula was quick to acknowledge the milestone. The world No. 5Â shared the USTA’s post honoring Shelton and Fritz on her Instagram story and added the USA’s national flag in it.

Former world No. 13 Jennifer Brady and reigning Australian Open champion Keys also reacted to this update on their Instagram stories.

This isn’t the first time Pegula and Brady have shown their appreciation for their American counterparts. A few weeks ago, on “The Player’s Box” Podcast, Pegula, Brady, and Madison Keys discussed how players like Shelton motivate them during practice sessions. Brady even recalled a light-hearted moment from a drill where Shelton praised Keys’ shots as “the best” he had ever seen.
