Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry has been a go-to back for his team’s offense ever since he joined the team. Henry is big enough to bowl over even the most stout-hearted defensive players.
On Thursday, Henry was going up against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., on “Thursday Night Football.”
How Is Ravens’ RB Derrick Henry Doing?
So far, Henry has nine carries for 30 yards. He’s been doing his best to make an imprint on the game as the second quarter is winding down and Baltimore is up 14-6 over the Dolphins at halftime.
At this point, the veteran running back needs to be doing a better job in the backfield. There’s no sign of Henry being injured in the game. So, he and the Ravens hope to get their running game going as the game progresses on Thursday night.

Entering Thursday night’s game, Henry, in seven games so far for the Ravens, has carried the ball 109 times for 510 yards and six touchdowns. With Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson back in the lineup on Thursday night after missing some time, Henry hopefully will get more carries now. Based on PFSN’s RB Impact metric, he is the 17th-ranked running back in the league this year.
Henry spent his first eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans, making a name for himself with his bruising style of running. He’s been selected to the Pro Bowl five times. Henry’s greatest season in the NFL was back in 2020, when he rushed for 2,027 yards and scored 16 touchdowns.

He almost rushed for 2,000 yards last season for the Ravens (1,921 to be exact) and also scored 16 touchdowns, too. But Henry has not been as effective this season. The Ravens have not been a great team this season, entering the Thursday night game against the Dolphins with a 2-5 record.
It’s been a slog for Baltimore, as the team looks to advance further in the NFL postseason this season than it has in recent years. Henry is looked upon as the one back that can carry Baltimore into an AFC Championship game and win it.
Jackson’s return has given the Ravens a spark against Miami so far on Thursday night. If Henry can return to his bruising style of running, then Baltimore might be in a better position to get its overall record back up to .500. At least that’s the hope of Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, too.
