Jannik Sinner vs. Ben Shelton Preview: Head-to-Head and Prediction for Paris Masters 2025

Jannik Sinner will face Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Paris Masters. Here's everything you need to know about the clash.

The 2025 Paris Masters is all set to witness a blockbuster clash, as second-seeded Jannik Sinner takes on fifth-seeded Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals. Coming into Paris, Sinner has been in exceptional form, winning titles in Beijing and Vienna.

He began his campaign in Paris with an opening-round bye, after which he won 6-4, 6-2 against Zizou Bergs in the second round. In the next round, he secured a 7-5, 6-1 victory over 17th-seeded Francisco Cerundolo.

Shelton’s form coming into the Paris Masters was not great, considering the American player had early exits at Shanghai and Basel. However, he seems to have found his rhythm on the indoor hard courts of Paris.

He got a bye in the first round, after which he won 7-6 (4), 6-3 against Flavio Cobolli in the second round and then won 7-6 (6), 6-3 over 12th-seeded Andrey Rublev in the third round.

Sinner vs. Shelton Head-to-Head

After seven meetings, Sinner has a 6-1 lead in the head-to-head against Shelton. The American won the very first time he played against the Italian at Shanghai in 2023. Since then, Sinner has won every match against the American without dropping a single set. The last time they played was at Wimbledon this year, where Sinner won 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4.

Sinner vs. Shelton Prediction

Winning 80.0 percent of his first-serve points has been the cornerstone for Sinner’s success in his first couple of matches in Paris. He has lost serve twice in two matches, but has managed to break his opponent’s serve eight times.

Meanwhile, as expected, Shelton has high serving numbers as well, winning 83.0 percent of his first-serve points as well as winning 78.0 percent of his second-serve points. The American player has a slightly under-par break-point conversion rate at 33.0 percent, but his ability to play high-level tennis in tiebreaks has helped him get through.

In all the matches that Sinner and Shelton have played to date, one set has always been decided by a tiebreak. The Italian has won six consecutive tiebreaks in a row against Shelton, making his record so dominant against him.

The American has had chances of closing out sets against the Italian but has failed to do so, mainly because of his inability to tackle the latter’s second serve. In their recent Wimbledon clash, Sinner won 67.0 percent of his second-serve points, whereas Shelton won 41.0 percent.

For Shelton to have a chance against Sinner in the upcoming match, he needs to win more points on his second serve and attack the Italian’s second serve even more as the latter has the power to outpace him in baseline rallies. However, given Sinner has been on a winning streak on indoor hard courts and has a dominant head-to-head, he starts as the favorite in the upcoming match.

The Pick: Sinner to win in straight sets
