Former champion and 11th seed Daniil Medvedev will look to carry on with his late-season surge as he takes on Lorenzo Sonego in the third round of the 2025 Paris Masters. Coming into Paris, Medvedev seems to have found his touch as he reached the semifinal in Shanghai and then finally snapped a two-year-long title drought by winning the Almaty Open. He began his campaign in Paris with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Jaume Munar in the first round and then received a walkover from Grigor Dimitrov in the second.
Sonego’s form on the indoor hard courts coming into Paris was mixed, as he had a quarterfinal run in Stockholm but was knocked out in the first round in Basel. At the Paris Masters, he began with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sebastian Korda in the first round, followed by a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in the second round.

Medvedev vs Sonego Head-to-Head
Medvedev has a 3-0 lead in the head-to-head against Sonego, with one of the wins coming via a mid-match retirement by the Italian. The last time these two players met, the Russian won 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in Dubai last year.
Medvedev vs Sonego Prediction
One key factor in Medvedev’s revived performances in the latter half of the 2025 season has been the return of the Russian’s serving efficiency, which was on full display in his first-round match in Paris. He was solid behind his first serve, winning over 80 percent of the first-serve points.
On the other hand, Sonego too has fared well in his serving games in Paris, winning 78 percent of the first serve points compared to his 73 percent win rate in the whole year. The Italian has saved six of the eight break points he has faced, exhibiting composure under pressure.

Medvedev’s record on indoor hard courts and on hard courts in general is nothing short of exemplary, as the Russian player has won 19 hard-court titles in his career, nine of which have come indoors. He is a former champion at the Paris Masters, having won the title back in 2020. Meanwhile, Sonego has won two hard-court titles in his career, one of which came indoors at the 2022 Moselle Open.
Medvedev is gradually coming back to his old best on hard courts, and the recent wins will fuel the Russian’s confidence. On the other hand, Sonego can play high-level tennis as he reached a hard-court Major quarterfinal this year in Melbourne, but the Italian’s play is often erratic, giving a firm advantage to his Russian opponent in the upcoming match.
