Chad Ryland (at DAL)
You are going to want pieces of this week’s Monday Night Football contest between the Cowboys and Cardinals. When the Cowboys play, lots of points are scored.
Chad Ryland is hitting 86.7% of his field goals this season. He’s attempted multiple field goals in all but one game.
The Cowboys allow the 11th-most fantasy points per game to kickers. And it’s not just field goals. The Cowboys love to allow opposing teams to score touchdowns, which means multiple extra points are likely for Ryland. He’s yet to miss one on the season.
The Cardinals are slight underdogs, but not so large to the point where they are likely to face a negative game script that would take field goals out of the question. It will be good weather. Ryland is a great option this week.
Jake Bates (vs. MIN)
We want kickers on good offenses. We especially want kickers playing at home as favorites in good weather. The problem with Jake Bates is that the Lions are so aggressive on fourth downs, he doesn’t get as many opportunities as fantasy managers would prefer.
Even with the Lions’ aggressiveness, Bates has attempted multiple field goals in all but two games. He’s also made all 27 of his extra points, as the Lions have been known to score a touchdown or three.
This week is appealing because the Vikings have a good, not great defense. Jared Goff should be able to get this team into scoring position frequently, but they won’t necessarily finish every drive, making Bates an appealing option for fantasy managers.
