Today’s NHL match is going to be a treat to watch. The Colorado Avalanche is coming off three straight losses and has a 5-1-3 record. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Devils have won seven straight games and only lost the season opener 6-3 against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Both teams were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last season as Colorado fell to the Dallas Stars in seven games. At the same time, New Jersey was knocked out by Carolina in five. Here’s what fans need to know ahead of the Avalanche vs. Devils showdown.

The teams will face off on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at the Prudential Center.

The Devils will miss key players heading into today’s matchup. Evgenii Dadonov is out with a hand injury, Johnathan Kovacevic is out with a knee issue, and Goalie Jacob Markstrom is dealing with a lower-body injury.

Zack MacEwen remains out due to an upper-body problem. Juho Lammikko is out with an undisclosed injury. Cody Glass got an upper-body injury.

The Avalanche has also injury troubles of its own. Samuel Girard got out with an upper-body injury. Joel Kiviranta is nursing a lower-body issue. And Logan O’Connor is sidelined with a hip injury. Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood will miss time with a lower-body injury.

Despite missing players, both teams head into this matchup with plenty of confidence. The big question now is whether the Devils can extend their dominant run at the top of the standings or whether the Avalanche can finally snap their losing streak and get back on track.
