The Chicago Bears are still hoping that running back D’Andre Swift will have a full recovery for this Sunday’s Week 8 NFL matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, but doubts remain. The latest updates on his injury on Friday officially placed him on the “questionable” list.
D’Andre Swift Is Listed as “Questionable” Along With Two Other Bears Players
According to Courtney Cronin, Swift sat out of the Bears’ practice activities on Wednesday with a groin injury. However, he returned to limited practice last Thursday and was back on the field again on Friday. This injury began after the Week 6 game, in which he had an excellent performance, racking up yards despite the pain.
Kyler Gordon, who popped up on the injury report Thursday, has been ruled OUT vs. Ravens. Big blow to the Bears secondary with Tyrique Stevenson also OUT.
Cole Kmet (back), Roschon Johnson (back), Braxton Jones (knee) are OUT.

On the other hand, wide receiver D.J. Moore, who had missed practice on Wednesday due to a similar groin injury, recovered well in time, returning to full practice on Friday without being listed among the players with any injury designation for the game.
In addition, the Bears announced that defensive back Kyler Gordon (groin and calf), running back Roschon Johnson (back), tackle Braxton Jones (knee), and tight end Cole Kmet (back) are officially out of the game. Finally, linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga (knee) and kicker Cairo Santos (thigh) are also listed as “questionable.”
Swift Is Fundamental to the Bears’ Offensive Performance This Season
So far this season, Swift has recorded 89 carries for 419 yards with an average of 4.7 yards per attempt, and has scored three rushing touchdowns for the Bears (who currently rank 15th in the PFSN Offense Impact metric with a 75.2 OFFi). The RB also has 166 receiving yards, averaging about 69.8 rushing yards per game, making him one of the most important players for the rest of the season.
Swift is currently the Bears’ primary running back, and his groin injury raises concerns for the rest of the season due to the possibility of reduced mobility and limited explosive bursts, thus affecting his participation in passing plays or quick changes of direction.
The importance of his presence on the field lies mainly in building a well-defined offensive identity for his team. He has an ideal stature for quick cut runs, zone reads, and plays that exploit lateral spaces.
The running back also demonstrates excellent block reading and a tendency to wait for the “second level” before deciding on his cut, punishing the Washington Commanders and New Orleans Saints defensive systems. Swift works well in short spaces and helps decisively to relieve pressure on the pocket, gaining yards after the catch.
Ben Johnson has used Swift in a variety of ways. Including inside and outside zone runs and as a receiver, seeking to minimize touches to create adjustment problems for opposing defenses. That is, when the defense focuses on a ground play, Swift finds options in the short pass and vice versa.
If Swift is available to play but still experiencing minor pain, the staff will likely limit his snaps in risky situations and stagger his touches, seeking to control his workload per game to prevent further aggravation of the injury.
