NFL Announces Major Punishment for Giants Over Jaxson Dart Concussion

NFL hands down major punishment to Giants following Jaxson Dart concussion incident, sending a strong message on player safety.

Jaxson Dart’s fearless, aggressive style has been a double-edged sword for the New York Giants in his rookie season. While his determination helped secure the team’s first wins of the 2025 NFL season, that same aggression also led to trouble.

During a Thursday Night Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Dart took an avoidable hit that sent him into the blue medical tent for a concussion evaluation. He was cleared to return, but the incident resulted in significant disciplinary action against his team.

Why Were the Giants Punished Over Jaxson Dart’s Concussion Check?

Dart’s borderline reckless playstyle directly led to the concussion check against the Eagles. As the rookie quarterback matures, he will likely learn to slide and avoid unnecessary hits more often, as his health and availability are far more crucial to the Giants than gaining a few extra yards on any single play. However, the issue that drew the league’s attention was not the hit itself, but how the team handled the aftermath.

The core of the problem occurred while Dart was undergoing his evaluation. Head coach Brian Daboll and running back Cam Skattebo entered the blue medical tent to check on their quarterback. This action is a major violation of the NFL’s safety guidelines, prohibiting all personnel from entering the tent for any reason while a medical examination is in progress.

According to Ari Meirov on X, the NFL responded by issuing a total of $315,000 in fines for the rules violation. The Giants organization received a $200,000 fine, Daboll was penalized $100,000, and Skattebo was fined an additional $15,000.

The NFL officially classified the violation as “conduct detrimental to the league” for interfering with the concussion protocols conducted by neutral, third-party medical staff. Mike Garafolo shared the full Joint NFL-NFLPA Statement to his X account.

While it’s unlikely that Daboll or Skattebo intended to influence the evaluation, their actions were understandably punishable. Their concern for Dart was likely genuine, especially considering he has been the spark the team needed to get its season back on track.

Since replacing Russell Wilson, who lost all three of his starts this year, Dart has posted a 2-2 record as the starting quarterback.
