Breece Hall Injury Update

Thursday update: Hall was limited again on Thursday. Even if he remains limited on Friday, Hall is tracking toward playing this week.

Hall sustained what was initially thought to be an ankle injury during last week’s game but was able to return to action after initially leaving the field. It turns out, it was his knee.

The fourth-year running back’s ability to finish the contest suggests the injury isn’t considered severe from a structural standpoint.

Head coach Aaron Glenn described Hall’s knee injury as minor during Wednesday’s press conference, providing some optimism for his Week 8 availability. However, Glenn also labeled Hall as “day to day,” which represents the ultimate coachspeak phrase that suggests uncertainty about his status.

Glenn grouped Hall together with Garrett Wilson when discussing injured players, despite Wilson’s knee injury being undoubtedly more significant than Hall’s knee concern. This pairing creates additional uncertainty about Hall’s true availability for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati.

The timing of Hall’s injury presents complications beyond the typical week-to-week concerns. New York has a Week 9 bye immediately following this weekend’s game, providing an extra week of recovery time for any player dealing with minor injuries.

Hall’s practice participation will serve as the primary indicator for his Week 8 status. If Hall is limited in Wednesday’s practice, it would suggest the knee is manageable and he’s trending toward playing against the Bengals. However, if Hall does not practice at all, it would indicate the injury is more concerning than Glenn’s “minor” description suggests and make his availability questionable.

Fortunately, Hall was limited at Wednesday’s practice, a very encouraging sign.

The Jets’ current season situation factors heavily into their decision-making process with injured players. Already playing out a lost season with minimal playoff hopes, there’s little incentive to push Hall through any injury, even a minor one, especially with an extra full week of recovery on the horizon.

Adding another layer to the situation are the persistent trade rumors surrounding Hall. Ensuring their valuable asset remains healthy becomes paramount if New York hopes to maximize any potential return before the trade deadline.

Hall Fantasy Outlook

Hall has been far from the bellcow running back fantasy managers expected entering the season. He’s averaging just a 61.2% snap share in 2025, representing a significant decrease from his previous workhorse role.

The backfield operated as a three-man committee before Braelon Allen suffered his MCL injury, with Hall sharing carries and snaps more than in previous seasons. Now the workload is primarily split between Hall and Isaiah Davis, creating a frustrating situation for fantasy managers who drafted Hall expecting consistent volume.

If Hall cannot play against Cincinnati, Davis would step into the starting role and serve as the lead back for New York. Given the Jets’ lack of depth at running back, there’s a legitimate chance Davis could see a higher snap share and overall workload than Hall has received at any point this season.

This potential opportunity makes Davis an intriguing pickup for fantasy managers, especially those dealing with bye week shortages. The expanded role could provide Davis with RB2 upside against a Cincinnati defense that has shown vulnerability against the run.

Fantasy managers should not expect Hall to miss more than one game, if he misses any time at all. The knee injury appears minor, and the Jets would likely prefer having their top offensive weapon available rather than sitting him for precautionary reasons.

However, if Hall does miss Week 8, Davis becomes a must-start option against the Bengals. The combination of increased volume, goal-line opportunities, and favorable game script could make Davis one of the week’s top waiver wire pickups and streaming options.
