Shedeur Sanders is almost certainly not where he expected to be heading into Week 8 of the NFL regular season.
The Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback remains benched behind third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, and no one is quite sure when he’ll get an opportunity to shine. Just a few months ago, Sanders was expecting to hear his name called in the top 10 picks of the 2025 NFL Draft but instead fell to the fifth round.
It’s safe to say Sanders has faced some unexpected circumstances in his professional career thus far.
How Does Shedeur Sanders Feel About His Current Situation?
Sanders took to social media Tuesday to express some thoughts he’s been having about his current situation in Cleveland. It appears the 23-year-old is staying positive despite remaining on the bench.
In a post on X, which has more than 900,000 views already, the former Colorado Buffaloes signal caller wrote, “The greatest lesson I’ve learned through it all is not to worry but to lean on and trust GOD in every situation. Even when I don’t know what to do, I’ve learned that GOD will always guide me. I live stress-free because I know that, no matter what, GOD has the final say over my life.”
Sanders continued, “I’m able to persevere through trials because I come from a family built on morals, values, and unshakable principles. Growing up, I had access to a lot, and maybe without my understanding shaped my world view, but I’ve realized that peace, purpose, and faith can’t be bought. They have to be built. True success is who you become while waiting on GOD’s timing. GOD’s pace protects what your purpose will one day require.”
This message makes clear Sanders is not stressing over when he’ll get his shot, although one Browns insider does have a few sources providing insight on the situation. Tony Rizzo spoke with two Cleveland sources during the Browns’ game against the Miami Dolphins, who gave him answers as to when Sanders will start.
“I was told by two different sources yesterday at the stadium,” Rizzo began on ESPN Cleveland. “One said Shedeur will start the last four games of the season no matter what. Unless the Browns win every game through the Titans week, Shedeur will play the Bears, Bills, Steelers, and Bengals. They want to see what he’s got. Another person said he could be in play earlier than that.”
Whether this turns out to be true remains to be seen, but either way Sanders will be leaning on and trusting in “GOD.”
