After a brief stay in the medical tent during a Thursday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants’ contingent have become the subject of the league office, and not in a positive way. The Giants are currently under investigation for how they handled the concussion that Dart sustained in the third quarter.
He ultimately cleared protocol to return to play in the fourth quarter; however, head coach Brian Daboll and even running back Cam Skattebo entered the tent while Dart was being attended to. Doing so under any circumstances is prohibited. The organization could be facing fines and potential suspensions down the road. According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, there’s no timeline for a decision to be made.
League Questioning Whether or Not Giants Followed Protocol
It’s certainly possible that Dart was excellent and checked all of the training staff’s boxes to return to the field. The speed at which he was supposedly cleared, followed by Daboll and Skattebo’s intrusions, though, calls matters into question.
Daboll tried to justify his actions in his post-game press conference, saying that he was checking on Dart’s status and whether or not he was going to be able to play ahead of a critical fourth down.

If Dart had been cleared, Daboll said that he would’ve called a timeout and gone for it.
The incident happened on Oct. 9, so after 10 days, the league has yet to resolve its investigation.

After signing Russell Wilson in the offseason, the Giants spent a first-round pick on Dart a month later. There weren’t any immediate plans to turn to Dart so soon, but after a 0-3 start to the regular season under Wilson, the Giants may have felt like they had no choice. They needed a shot in the arm, and Dart provided just that.
Since taking the reins from Wilson, Dart and Skattebo, a fourth-round rookie, have formed one of the league’s most dynamic young duos.
Dart has led the Giants to a 2-1 record, finding success with both his arm and his legs. He’s completed just south of 66% of his passes for 508 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. He’s also rushed 27 times for 167 yards and a touchdown.
Despite their 2-4 record, the Giants are still in the thick of the NFC East race. The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders have two and three wins, respectively. The Giants are on the road this week for an out-of-conference clash with the Denver Broncos.
