There hasn’t been much to root for if you are a New York Jets fan. The Jets are still looking for their first win of the season and are tasked with taking down the Carolina Panthers if they want to get on the board in 2025. It’s not getting any easier for the AFC East team, though, as Justin Fields left the game with an injury in the second quarter.
What Happened to Justin Fields?
Fields ran the ball for a first down and gave himself up as he slid to the ground. He was met by a Panther defender who delivered a huge hit that was very late.
A brawl ensued with multiple penalties, and Fields was shaken up. He left the game, and his status is unknown.

Fields completed three of his seven passes for 17 yards and rushed for five yards, on the play where he was injured. Fields was checked out by the medical team and returned to the game on the following drive. Tyrod Taylor picked up the pieces and got the Jets into field goal range while Fields was on the sidelines.
Fields was coming off his worst game of the season. Now, he may have added injury to insult.
Operating without Garrett Wilson, it was always going to be tough sledding for Fields and the Jets’ offense. The reality is Fields was likely one bad outing away from getting benched anyway. The injury may have expedited the process.
Tyrod Taylor is like Fields lite from a fantasy standpoint. But he’s an upgrade for the passing game. Unfortunately, there is no one in this passing game worth starting while Wilson is hurt. Fields is perilously close to being droppable.
The last thing the Jets wanted in today’s game was another injury, and they’ll be glad to avoid any serious problems. The Jets already lost Fields to a concussion this season and Taylor had to step in. Taylor was more than serviceable in his start, but it didn’t get New York a win either.
The Jets offense is the 30th-ranked offense in PFSN’s Offense Impact score with a grade of 64.2. They are far ahead of the Browns and Titans, who are the bottom two teams in the metric. It’s still a very unimpressive offense and last week was a prime example of how ugly the Jets offense can be. With net negative passing yards, the offense and Fields could only go up in Week 7.
