Travis Hunter Stats and Highlights: A Look at the Jaguars Phenom’s Breakout Game in Week 7 vs. Rams

After a slow start to his NFL career, Travis Hunter seems to have finally gotten a momentum-building performance against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a clear plan of what they wanted Travis Hunter to be when they first brought him into the team as part of a blockbuster draft-day trade with the Cleveland Browns. Since then, they’ve taken the time to mold him into a consistent threat on both sides of the football. However, he is far from playing full-time on either end, as the team tries to figure out what works best with him.

Unfortunately, the figuring-out process has led to growing pains for Hunter, even as the team as a whole has had an incredible 4-3 start. That was on full display on Sunday when they took on the Los Angeles Rams in an international fixture in London. But, as a whole, the final stat line may have been the single best game he’s had since coming to the pros. Here’s what Hunter did against the Rams.

How Did Travis Hunter Play Against the Los Angeles Rams?

Through the first six games of the year, the second overall pick from this year’s draft had just 197 receiving yards on 20 catches, with 31 targets towards him. He currently ranks 67th on PFSN’s WR Impact, far from the explosiveness the franchise may have expected.

Additionally, Hunter had some runs on the defensive side. Recording 15 total tackles, he’s been out on his own for most of those, with 11 solo tackles to his name, while recording two pass deflections as well.

Against the Rams, though, he came to his own for a special night. The game was well out of reach for Jacksonville, as they trailed 21-0 after three quarters and lost by a score of 35-7.

However, that score marked the Colorado alumnus’s first career touchdown.

It was a 34-yard reception that got Hunter that score. But it wasn’t the only highlight he’d compile on the night. Finishing with 101 yards on eight catches, he was a critical piece of the offense for the Jaguars, with no other player going for more than 52 yards.

However, Hunter’s impact was also felt on the defensive side of the ball. Given far fewer opportunities than usual, Hunter still made them count, recording a sublime pass deflection on a perfectly thrown ball to Davante Adams on the left sideline.

While the team’s overall performance left much to be desired, Hunter’s production on both offense and defense may have been the exact kickstart his young career needed. Struggling through the first six weeks, this performance could build some serious momentum for him.
