After Penn State’s decision to fire James Franklin, Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier could be the next head coach on the hot seat. Florida fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in SEC play with last Saturday’s loss to Texas A&M.
At halftime, the Gators were narrowly ahead 13-7 against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Going into today’s game, the Gators were heavy favorites at home to Mississippi State. However, they haven’t made it look that way.
Florida Fans Chant ‘Fire Napier.’ After the First Half Vs Mississippi State.
After a failed third-down conversion, Gators fans finally lost patience with Napier. This came after the Gators had a simple 34-yard field goal pushed back to 54 yards after 2 penalties. They went into halftime leading the game 13-7 after the field goal.
The crowd chanted “Fire Billy,” loud and clear. It shows the impact of the Gators has recent performance on the fans.

According to a recent report from USA Today, Florida was set to move on from the head coach as soon as tonight. This came after an insider report revealed that athletic director Scott Stricklin met with the boosters on Tuesday.
“According to sources, Florida’s athletic director Scott Stricklin met with a handful of influential boosters on Tuesday and was told continuing financial support depends on a “new direction within the football program.” The report revealed.
However, the Florida coach’s firing is not a certain thing yet. Pete Nakos of On3 revealed on Sunday that sources told him the bye week following the home game against Mississippi “looms large as the possible point where Florida moves on Napier.”

“Despite all the rumors about Billy Napier’s future at Florida, his players continue to play hard for him. Athletic director Scott Stricklin has shown patience, not making a quick move on from the head coach after the USF loss.” Nakos also wrote.
However, nobody took into account the potential for the Gators to lose to the Bulldogs, which still isn’t out of the question. With the upcoming games for Napier and the Gators, this could be their last opportunity at a win for a number of weeks.
Quintessential Billy Napier Era.
It’s not directly his fault. He’s not adjudicating the game. But that’s his tenure encapsulated into one play: even when things go right, they go wrong. pic.twitter.com/1rDVX3N0yF

Out of their next three games, the Gators have to deal with a home game against the Georgia Bulldogs, who will be looking to continue form after a victory against Ole Miss. Just two weeks later, Florida will also have to contend with a 6-1 Ole Miss on the road.
According to PFSN’s College Offense Impact (OFFi), the Gators were graded B- this season with an impact score of 80.3. But if a strong team does not translate to wins, there’s no point.
Before today’s game, the Gators were projected to win four games and lose seven. However, a loss against the Mississippi Bulldogs today would essentially knock Florida out of any bowl contention they may have had and surely be the final straw for Napier.
