The Cleveland Browns’ offense is struggling on multiple fronts, even after changing quarterbacks. Neither the passing attack nor the running game has gained traction, and losing any productive player at this stage would be a major blow for the team.
That concern has become reality with Jerry Jeudy, who ranks second in receiving yards among Browns receivers. Let’s break down his injury and what it means for Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins.
What Is Jerry Jeudy’s Injury Status Ahead of Week 7 Against the Dolphins?
While it’s unclear exactly when Jeudy sustained the injury, he appeared on Wednesday’s injury report with a knee issue. The fact that he was able to participate in practice suggests it is likely a mild strain rather than a serious concern.
Jeudy was again limited on Thursday, making his participation in Friday’s practice a key indicator for Sunday’s home game against the Dolphins. If he is able to practice fully on Friday, he will very likely suit up for the game. However, if he remains limited, he could be listed as a game-time decision.
Should Jeudy miss the game, Isaiah Bond, Jamari Thrash, and Malachi Corley would be expected to take on larger roles, giving Cleveland’s inexperienced wide receiver group opportunities to step up while Jeudy recovers.
How Has Jeudy Performed This Season?
While Jeudy ranks second among Browns receivers with 240 yards, his efficiency has taken a hit. He has struggled with dropped passes this season, totaling eight drops through the first six games. Four of those six games featured multiple drops, including three in last Sunday’s 23-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Since 2009, only three other NFL receivers have recorded at least eight drops in the first six games of a season, and Jeudy is rightly frustrated.
“I mean, you’re going to be frustrated. It’s football, you’re going to be frustrated during the season, each game. You just can’t let that frustration carry over until the next week and into your playing style or into your habits,” he said.
There are signs of chemistry developing between Jeudy and rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, which could benefit the Browns’ passing attack. Gabriel targeted Jeudy 13 times last week, and Jeudy finished with five catches for 43 yards. The duo also nearly connected on a 34-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
The Browns will hope for more consistent connections moving forward. However, if Gabriel struggles, Jeudy, currently ranked 77th in PFSN’s WR Impact metric, could once again be forced to adjust to catching passes from his seventh quarterback in just his second year with Cleveland.
