Kyler Murray Injury Update

Murray sustained his foot injury during the third quarter of Arizona’s 22-21 setback against Tennessee two weeks ago. The problem occurred after a botched snap struck him in the facemask, resulting in a fumble that the Titans recovered for crucial field position.

Following the turnover, Murray departed for the locker room under his own power for medical evaluation. The Cardinals initially designated him as questionable to return due to the foot concern, though his absence lasted only two plays before he returned to finish the contest.

Murray did not play in Week 6 against Indianapolis, marking his first absence since returning from a torn ACL in 2022. Jacoby Brissett started and played well, almost leading the Cardinals to an upset victory while completing 27 of 44 passes for 320 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Wednesday brought encouraging news when Murray returned to practice on a limited basis for his first on-field work since sustaining the injury. This represents an improvement from where he was at this point last week, when he missed both Wednesday and Thursday practice sessions entirely.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon provided cautious optimism regarding Murray’s progress, stating: “Make sure that he’s healthy enough to play, you know, so we’ll progress him along here this week and see where he’s at”. The comment suggests Murray at least has a chance to play against Green Bay.

If Murray can advance to full practice participation by Friday, that would put him on track to play Sunday. If not, he will almost certainly draw a questionable designation and once again be a game-time decision for the Cardinals.

Murray Fantasy Outlook

Murray’s fantasy production has been inconsistent through five weeks despite maintaining his dual-threat capabilities. He has yet to finish better than QB12 in any single week this season, raising questions about his weekly ceiling even when healthy.

Arizona has faced relatively favorable matchups against New Orleans, Carolina, and Tennessee, three teams projected to compete for top draft positioning this spring. Murray’s struggles against weaker competition create concerns about his effectiveness against stronger defenses moving forward.

However, he has demonstrated his signature mobility by reaching 25 rushing yards in every game while recording a 30-yard completion in four of five contests. These explosive play elements maintain his appeal for fantasy managers seeking high-ceiling quarterback production.

With the Cardinals having a Week 8 bye, it still makes sense for them to hold Murray out one more week to ensure full recovery. The extra rest would guarantee he returns at 100% capacity rather than risking further setbacks by rushing back prematurely.

Should Murray miss another contest, Brissett will continue as Arizona’s starter. The veteran quarterback brings extensive experience but lacks Murray’s dynamic playmaking ability, downgrading the fantasy outlook for Cardinals skill position players like Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr.

Fantasy managers should monitor Murray’s practice participation closely throughout the week, as his progression from limited to full participation will determine his availability against the Packers.
