On the tennis side of things, Medvedev recently competed in the 2025 Shanghai Masters, where he reached the semifinals before losing to eventual runner-up Arthur Rinderknech.

The former World No. 1 will next compete at the 2025 Almaty Open, which began on October 13, 2025, and will run until October 19, 2025. The matches are being held on the indoor hard courts of the Almaty Arena.

Who Will Medvedev Face at the 2025 Almaty Open 2R?

Medvedev is seeded second at the 2025 Almaty Open and will begin his tournament in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round. He is set to face Adam Walton in his opening match.

In the lead-up to the ATP 250 hard-court tournament in Kazakhstan, Walton competed at the 2025 Jinan Open, where he was the second seed. In the first round, he defeated wild card Sun Fajing with a scoreline of 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. His campaign ended in the second round when he lost to Brandon Holt with a 4-6, 3-6 score.

In addition to his singles campaign at the Almaty Open, Walton also participated in the doubles event. He teamed up with fellow Australian James Duckworth, and they reached the quarterfinals after defeating the Kazakh Wild Card duo of Amir Omarkhanov and Beibit Zhukayev in the first round, winning with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-7(4), [10-8].

Medvedev and Walton have faced each other only once on the ATP Tour: in the second round of the 2025 Cincinnati Open, which the Aussie won with a score of 6-7(0), 6-4, 6-1.

The winner of the second-round match between Medvedev and Walton at the 2025 Almaty Open will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face either fifth seed Brandon Nakashima or Fábián Marozsán.
