Where Are the Two Teams Standing Heading Into Week 6?
The Falcons didn’t play in Week 5, taking their bye week with a 2-2 record. They’ve experienced plenty of inconsistency on both sides of the ball, but the hope is that the bye week will help them stabilize.
Atlanta opened the season with a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though Michael Penix Jr. impressed in his season debut before leading the Falcons to a Week 2 win over the Vikings. Week 3, however, was a low point as the Panthers dominated Atlanta 30-0, with Penix throwing for just 172 yards and two interceptions, including a pick-six early in the third quarter.
The Falcons rebounded in Week 4 against the Commanders, with Penix completing 20 of 26 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-27 victory. Still, the fact that a team without its star quarterback pushed Atlanta to the limit is a worrying sign for the Falcons, whose offense and defense both rank in the Top 20 of PFSN’s Impact metrics.
