‘Jalen Hurts Was Awful’ — Ex-Eagles LB Gets Brutally Honest About Philadelphia QB’s Performance vs. Giants

Jalen Hurts had a tough game against the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football and one ex-Eagles LB ripped into his rough performance.

The Philadelphia Eagles are on a losing streak. They looked to bounce back after a Week 6 loss on Thursday Night Football against their division rival, the New York Giants. Instead of bouncing back, they were beaten handily by the Giants. The offense continued its early-season struggles, and former Eagles LB Emmanuel Acho was especially critical of QB Jalen Hurts’ performance.

Emmanuel Acho Rips Jalen Hurts’ Performance

Acho was not a fan of Hurts’ performance on Thursday Night Football. The Eagles scored just 17 points and were shut out in the second half. It wasn’t just the lack of points, though. Acho ripped into Hurts for two plays that proved costly, overthrowing DeVonta Smith on a deep shot and missing A.J. Brown over the middle before throwing a backbreaking interception. “Jalen Hurts was awful when it mattered most,” said Acho.

Hurts missed Smith on a busted coverage deep in his territory, which would have been a 90-yard touchdown had it connected. Smith was wide open, and Hurts just missed him. Acho was very disappointed by the performance, mainly because it was the pivotal plays that he couldn’t connect on. “Under no circumstance can you miss that throw,” said Acho.

But Acho wasn’t done there as he broke down the pivotal interception that turned the game on its head. With the Eagles trailing by 10, they had the ball in the red zone in the fourth quarter. The Giants sent seven rushing the QB and left the middle of the field wide open. Hurts didn’t recognize that Brown had a touchdown over the middle. Hurts targeted Jahan Dotson, and the Giants jumped the route for a huge interception and return.

“As long as you would have thrown it, it’s six. Instead, that’s nearly a pick-six,” Acho said. The Eagles had points in the bag and likely a touchdown if Hurts threw the ball to Brown over the middle. This was the dagger for Philadelphia as the Giants capitalized for a touchdown, pushing their lead to three possessions.

The offense has yet to click for the Eagles. Hurts is the reigning Super Bowl MVP, but is the 21st-ranked QB in PFSN’s QB Impact score with a grade of 75.7. The Eagles need Hurts to get on track, along with better performances from Saquon Barkley, and getting their star receivers involved more. The Eagles still sit at 4-2 and are in control of their season, but they’ve lost their grip on the division lead and must bounce back in Week 7.
