Milwaukee Bucks franchise player Giannis Antetokounmpo is running out of patience.
He’s searching for solutions amid three straight first-round playoff exits and notable head coach and roster turnover. The thought of Antetokounmpo leaving the Bucks is very real, which frustrates Hall of Famer Charles Barkley.
Barkley recently offered a strong response to the rumors of Antetokounmpo potentially exiting Milwaukee.
Charles Barkley Says Giannis Antetokounmpo Is Entitled
While discussing the tension surrounding Antetokounmpo possibly leaving the Bucks on the Rich Eisen show, Barkley said, “they feel like they’re entitled to play for the championship every year. I wish a person love me as much as the Bucks love Giannis. They went out and got him Dame Lillard, went out and got him Myles Turner, they have done everything possible to try to make the Bucks win again.”
Barkley added “It’s unfortunate. It’s disheartening to hear that if we don’t win a championship this year, I’m gonna be outta here.”
“These guys, they feel like they’re entitled to play for the championship every year. … Everybody wants to win a championship, but the Bucks have done everything they possibly could.”

While Antetokounmpo has always praised Milwaukee and said that he would love to finish his career with the Bucks, he’s consistently stated his desire to win another championship. He said his legacy matters to him more than money. The Bucks has been on a downward trajectory in the biggest moments ever since winning the championship in 2021.
Antetokounmpo joined Oscar Roberson in a club that neither man wants to be a part of last season. The superstar big man averaged 30.0 or more points per game for the third straight season, only to not win a playoff series in any of the ensuing postseasons.
Head Coach Mike Budenholzer helped the Bucks win their second championship in franchise history, but he was essentially fired in part because of Antetokounmpo’s frustration with his lack of adjustments during the team’s quick playoff exits.
Adrian Griffin then took over as head coach in 2023 but lasted only 43 games, as rumors swirled that his dismissal was also tied to Antetokounmpo being frustrated with his coaching.
The pressure is now on Doc Rivers to deliver.

The aforementioned trade for star guard Damian Lillard was meant to rejuvenate Antetokounmpo, but the two All-NBA players never developed elite chemistry. The Bucks opted to waive and stretch Lillard this summer to help poach center Myles Turner from the rival Indiana Pacers.
While Turner is a quality player, he’s never made an All-Star team and had a poor showing during last year’s NBA Finals. He averaged just 10.6 points per game, while shooting 37.7% from the field and 21.4% from three.
Antetokounmpo is likely also frustrated with the performance of forward Kyle Kuzma, who has been mentioned in trade rumors. The Bucks acquired Kuzma from the Wizards in February while moving on from three-time All-Star Khris Middleton. Kuzma had a dreadful playoff performance for the Bucks, averaging just 5.8 points per game while shooting 34.3% from the field and 20% from three.
Now, Turner and Kuzma are the two primary complementary players Antetokounmpo is leaning on as he prepares for his 13th season in Milwaukee. The two-time league MVP averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game last season on 60.1% shooting from the field. He’s the only player in league history to have multiple seasons averaging more than 30.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game on better than 60.0% shooting.
With Antetokounmpo squarely in his prime, he’s determined not to waste anymore seasons, despite what Barkley may think about the situation.
