Miami Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes are the highest-ranked college football team on a bye in Week 7, taking a well-deserved break from taking the Florida State Seminoles to task at the weekend. The next time we’ll see Mario Cristobal’s second-ranked ACC frontrunners is a Friday night clash against the Louisville Cardinals, a potential banana skin currently slated for ESPN2.

Vanderbilt Commodores

The Diego Pavia-led Vanderbilt Commodores came up short against the Alabama Crimson Tide and will now have a week to either stew over the result or plan their bounce-back. Head coach Clark Lea is still bullish over the program’s College Football Playoff chances, and according to the PFSN College Football Playoff meter (FPM), the ‘Dores have a 20.6% chance of making the postseason tournament.

Memphis Tigers

After trouncing the Tulsa Golden Hurricane last Saturday, the Memphis Tigers head into their Week 7 college football bye as the Group of Five frontrunner to reach the playoff. The 23rd-ranked American Conference outfit will face the UAB Blazers off the bye week in an easily winnable game, but then have the USF Bulls, Tulane Green Wave, and Navy Midshipmen down the stretch.

Virginia Cavaliers

Quote possibly the surprise team of the 2025 college football season so far, the Virginia Cavaliers have a Week 7 bye that arrives at just the right time. Quarterback Chandler Morris was banged up on the second-to-last play of the overtime win over Louisville, the program’s consecutive week with a game that went beyond regulation time.

A breather before taking on the Washington State Cougars gives Morris time to heal his battered body, then the rest of the ACC slate is very winnable.
