When he’s gotten a chance to play, Dallas Cowboys running back Miles Sanders has shown to be somewhat effective. Sanders has been playing behind starter Javonte Williams this season and has picked up key yardage when he’s on the field.
Sanders has been dealing with some injury issues heading into Dallas’ Week 5 game against the New York Jets. It’s led some Cowboys fans to wonder if Sanders would be available to play.
What’s The Latest on Miles Sanders?
Sanders’ health issues surround his ankle and knee. Will Sanders play against the Jets at MetLife Stadium on its turf, which has come under scrutiny after New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers’ scary injury in Week 4?
According to a post on X from Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys have listed Sanders as questionable. The Cowboys’ offense will be down wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin, who are out with injuries themselves.
If Sanders cannot go, then Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer will have to call on rookie Jaydon Blue to back up Williams. Blue has been a healthy inactive over Dallas’ first four games. The 1-2-1 Cowboys hope that the fifth-round draft pick out of Texas in the 2025 NFL Draft can perform when called upon to make key carries.
Schottenheimer reportedly told Dallas media members that he would know more about who would be able to play later in the week. Cowboys beat writer Joseph Hoyt for the Dallas Morning News put up a picture on X from Cowboys practice on Friday and he noted who was and was not there.
Brian Schottenheimer said he’ll find a lot more about injuries today.
Well…
No LT Tyler Guyton, no LG Tyler Smith, no WR KaVontae Turpin, no RB Miles Sanders for the third-straight day. pic.twitter.com/7dviyViu77

Hoyt notes that Sanders wasn’t at practice for a third straight day. Cowboys fans can read into that what they want but Sanders has not officially been listed as out. He’s questionable and his absence would be a detriment to the Dallas rushing attack.
Sanders was a second-round draft choice by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2019 NFL Draft. He played his first four seasons with the Eagles, helping Philadelphia reach Super Bowl LVII where the Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35. In that game, Sanders had seven carries for 16 yards and a key fumble on the game’s opening play in the loss.
After that season, Sanders signed a four-year, $25 million contract with the Carolina Panthers. He played two seasons for Carolina before joining the Cowboys in the offseason. For his career, Sanders has 4,462 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns.
