Cedric Tillman Injury Update: Browns HC Kevin Stefanski Reveals Concerning News About the $5.6 Million WR

Browns WR Cedric Tillman suffered a hamstring injury during the Week 4 loss to the Lions, and HC Kevin Stefanski has now provided an update.

The Cleveland Browns walked into Week 4 with a ton of momentum. Registering their first win of the season against a potential Super Bowl contender in the Green Bay Packers, the 13-point swing in the final four minutes certainly gave new life to the organization.

However, what followed was a frustrating 34-10 loss in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions as the Browns allowed three turnovers and one punt return touchdown. Adding to the nightmare, wide receivers DeAndre Carter and Cedric Tillman suffered injuries during the game, and now head coach Kevin Stefanski is spelling more doom for this offense.

What Concerning Update Did Kevin Stefanski Reveal About Cedric Tillman’s Injury?

A second-generation star, Tillman was taken in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Browns and signed a four-year, $5.6 million contract. A slow start to his career saw him total less than 600 yards through his first two seasons, with his first career touchdown coming in Week 8 of the 2024 season.

And just as he seemed poised for a breakout, Tillman suffered a concussion in Week 12 of last season and was ruled out for the remainder of the year.

This season, Tillman appeared to have turned a corner, totaling 10 catches for 100 yards through three games and leading all players on the team with two receiving touchdowns. However, just after recording his first catch of the game on Sunday, he suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter and was ruled out for the game.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski has now confirmed the Browns’ worst fears, ruling both Tillman and DeAndre Carter out for multiple weeks. On Tuesday, the Browns placed Tillman on the injured reserve, and he will miss at least the next four games.

“Browns signed Malachi Corley and Gage Larvadain to the active roster from the practice squad,” wrote Aaron Wilson. “Placed Cedric Tillman (hamstring) on injured reserve and waived Cameron Mitchell, signed Ameer Speed to the practice squad.

According to PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact (WRi) metric, Tillman is currently ranked as the 68th-best wide receiver in the league, with a score of 67.6. In his absence, Isaiah Bond will likely take on a larger role alongside No. 1 receiver Jerry Jeudy, though both have underperformed compared to Tillman.

Bond, an undrafted free agent, has totaled just seven receptions for 85 yards, while Jeudy has 13 receptions for 182 yards and ranks 75th in WRi with a score of 65.1.

These trends highlight growing concerns for the Browns’ struggling passing game. With quarterback Joe Flacco far from his best, a change at the position seems increasingly likely. In fact, rookie Dillon Gabriel received snaps under center near the end of Sunday’s game, hinting at a potential larger role for the young quarterback moving forward.

The Browns will now travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Oct. 5 for their Week 5 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.
