Head coach Paul Maurice confirmed Barkov would undergo further evaluation, with more information expected Friday.

Maurice, though, tried to keep the mood steady. “It’s beyond our control, so there’s no concern,” he said. “If he’s not in the lineup on opening night, or if he misses an exhibition game, or he’s out long-term, it’s just not going to affect that day. We’ve got to win the hockey game, and we’ve got to prep for it.”
His comments reflected the team’s next-man-up mentality, though even he admitted no one likes seeing their captain sidelined.
Aleksander Barkov’s Value to Florida
Drafted second overall in 2013, Barkov has captained the Panthers since 2018 and leads the team in nearly every offensive category, from goals to assists to game-winning tallies.
Last season, he tallied 71 points in 67 games and added 22 more in the playoffs, helping the Panthers secure a second straight Stanley Cup. Recognized as one of the NHL’s best two-way players, Barkov has earned multiple Selke Trophies.
His presence provides skill on the ice and leadership off it, making the prospect of losing him even more daunting.
