Stephanie White Gets Brutally Honest About Why Fever Lost Game 2 to Aces, and It May Get Her Fined by WNBA

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White makes a bold statement after Game 2 loss to Aces and it could bring serious consequences.

The Indiana Fever stunned the WNBA world by taking Game 1 of the semifinals against the Las Vegas Aces. But in Game 2, the momentum vanished. The Aces dominated from start to finish, handing the Fever a crushing 90-68 loss. Indiana, a team battered by injuries all season, has shown remarkable resilience to reach this stage.

But after Game 2, Coach Stephanie White spoke bluntly and honestly about what went wrong, and it may have cost her more than a technical foul.

Stephanie White Calls Out Officiating After Crushing Loss in Game 2 vs. Aces

White’s frustration spilled over when she spoke about why her team looked so out of rhythm against the Aces. According to Underdog WNBA’s X handle, she was direct about what she believed held her players back.

Her candor, however, could land her in trouble. The WNBA has rules about criticizing referees publicly, and White may face a fine for her remarks.

That said, this isn’t new territory for White. During Game 1 of the playoffs against the Atlanta Dream, White received another technical for contesting a no-call when Dream guard Rhyne Howard grabbed Shey Peddy under the basket.

Likewise, earlier in the season, on Jul. 3, 2025, in a commanding 81-54 win over the Aces, she was assessed a technical foul for arguing with an official late in the game. The Fever have consistently criticized officiating this season, making White’s comments part of a broader narrative rather than an isolated incident.

Aces Bounce Back With a Commanding Win Amid White’s Frustration

While Fever’s coach was frustrated over the officiating, the Aces came into Game 2 determined to flip the script. Playing at the Michelob ULTRA Arena, they used their home-court advantage to full effect.

Aliyah Boston, anchoring the defense, had locked Wilson to just 16 points in Game 1, but the reigning WNBA MVP made no mistake in Game 2.

Wilson lit up the scoreboard, finishing with 25 points and nine rebounds on a decent 10-for-18 shooting night. That scoring barrage helped the Aces control the game from the outset. They built a nine-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a decisive victory.

The Fever, meanwhile, struggled to find rhythm. Kelsey Mitchell, the hero of Game 1 against the Aces, was held to just 13 points. Lexie Hull, the team’s key offensive threat, managed 15 points. Indiana’s offense simply could not keep pace with the efficiency and aggression of the Aces.

Game 2’s loss was a wake-up call for the Fever, who have fought through adversity all season. But the series is far from over. The best-of-five matchup now shifts to Indianapolis for Game 3 on Friday night. The Fever will look to regroup, refocus, and respond. But with tensions rising, Coach White’s bold comments and the possibility of league discipline will add another layer of drama to the series.
