Fran Brown Puts Dabo Swinney on Notice With Staff Admission Amid Strong Poaching Message

Fran Brown praised Jeff Nixon ahead of an ACC showdown with Clemson. He also sent a warning shot for anyone looking to poach his players.

Fran Brown and the Syracuse Orange take their 2-1 record into Clemson this weekend. Clemson hasn’t gotten off to the start it had hoped for, but Syracuse still understands the challenge they have going into this conference road game.

The former player-turned-coach is 12-4 in his first stint as a head coach (counting a 10-3 last season), and he’s bringing attitude and style to the Syracuse program. The fiery head coach spoke this week on his offensive coordinator and joined the ‘I Am Athlete’ show this week to warn teams looking to take players from his program.

How Did Fran Brown Put the League on Notice?

Brown is intent on building a program, and managing the transfer portal is a vital part of that. This past offseason was challenging for the Orange as they lost 21 players to the portal. In an effort to avoid a similar fate this year, Brown is letting the college football world know not to mess with him.

“I don’t even care, bruh. Dude’s be trying to push up on my wife. She’s bad. It’s just the game it’s what they do. I don’t care, but don’t let me find out, and then I’ll see you. Cause I ain’t no b**ch. Like I’m gonna come at you like ‘what’s up?’ I’m gonna see you. There’s a couple of dudes I called and they tried to say ‘lose my line’. Like man, shut up.”

Brown is bringing his own style and attitude to what can be a very buttoned-up league. He’s faced some criticism, and he did see a fair number of players leave last offseason. We don’t have a crystal ball to predict the future, but here are two things we do know. Syracuse is 12-4 since Brown was named head coach, and he’s only going to do things one way, his way.

Brown Praises OC Jeff Nixon

Syracuse has been good on the offensive side of the ball to start the 2025 season. They currently rank 33rd in points per game, with 39.7, and are tied for 22nd in yards per game, with 486. Brown praised his offensive coordinator, Jeff Nixon, this week. “I think Jeff is one of the best in the country, and that’s why we work together. I think we work well together.”

It’s hard to argue with the results they see on the field, but continuing to produce will be key for all parties involved. “He’ll probably not get enough credit, but we’ll see, we just got to play.”

Syracuse at Clemson kicks off at noon on Saturday.
