What is Shapovalov and Björklund’s Love Story?

Shapovalov and Björklund first crossed paths on the international junior tennis circuit in 2019. She, a Swedish pro who reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 123 in 2022, and he, a former world No. 10, bonded over shared experiences traveling the tour. Their friendship blossomed into romance, with the Canadian proposing during a picturesque moment at the Nordea Open in Sweden in July 2023.

In interviews, Shapovalov has praised Björklund’s organizational flair, noting that she has overseen most wedding preparations while he focused on his 2024 season. He told Tennis Channel that invitations were already sent out by mid-2024 and that the ceremony would be attended only by family and childhood friends.

Leading up to their wedding, Björklund shared glimpses of her bridal journey: from trying on gowns with her mother and sister in December 2024 to scouting a venue in February 2025. Throughout, the pair maintained a low profile, avoiding grand announcements.

On the tennis front, Shapovalov last competed at the US Open where he was the 27th seed and reached the third round before losing to eventual runner-up Jannik Sinner despite being a set up. The Canadian is next scheduled to compete as the seventh seed at the Japan Open in Tokyo, which starts during the upcoming week.
