Illinois vs. Indiana Head-to-Head Record
Although no hardware changes hands between Illinois and Indiana, the intensity of this Big Ten rivalry remains fierce heading into Saturday’s showdown.
The series began in 1899 with Indiana claiming a 5-0 victory, and this weekend’s contest will mark the 74th meeting between these longtime conference foes. Illinois has dominated the historical rivalry with impressive streaks, including its longest run of six consecutive victories from 1981 to 1986, while Indiana’s best stretch came earlier, with four straight wins from 1967 to 1970.
The Fighting Illini hold a commanding 46-25-2 advantage in the all-time series according to the attached data, establishing themselves as the clear historical winner in this matchup. However, recent trends tell a different story entirely.
The rivalry has become remarkably balanced over the past two decades, with both teams splitting the last 20 meetings at 10 wins apiece. Moreover, the competitive nature has intensified significantly, as each of the last two encounters was decided by a mere field goal, highlighting how evenly matched these programs have become despite their historical disparity.

Illinois vs. Indiana Prediction
When top teams come together in college football, they more often than not live up to the hype, and I expect nothing less from Illinois and Indiana. This is especially true when both teams have battle-tested and incredibly skilled players at quarterback.
Most of Illinois’ questionable players heading into the week are good to go for their Big Ten opener here, but one player has not healed up in time. Illinois’ top cornerback, Xavier Scott, is expected to miss this match, which is a huge loss for the Fighting Illini.
Bielema: Dylan Rosiek, Aidan Laughery are fully back.
Justin Bowick questionable, Xavier Scott is not expected to go.

This game could ultimately decide whether either of these teams gets into the CFP field at the end of the year. They play in arguably the best conference in college football, and it looks like very few teams could stop them right now.
As mentioned, both quarterbacks are good, and both teams have great skill players. The difference in this game will be whether the Indiana defense can look as dominant in conference as it did in its warm-up games.
The Illinois defense is not one to be disrespected, but Indiana will take advantage of Scott’s absence and use the passing game to make holes for its running game, which has averaged 307.7 yards per game on the ground alone to this point of the year.
Look for this to be must-watch football and tighter to score points than some may expect, but for the Hoosiers to come through in the key moments to take a massive win at home.
Prediction: Indiana 27, Illinois 20
