Despite preseason projections setting Colorado’s win total at 6.5, Deion Sanders’ squad has stumbled to a disappointing 1-2 beginning that wasn’t part of the plan. Even with a lackluster start, Coach Sanders knows his group still has time to bounce back and have a successful 2025 season.
Only two of their remaining nine opponents are ranked in the top 25. Their next three games are against non-ranked opponents, which presents an opportunity to get on track. With a long way to go this season, Sanders is not giving up on his group and is looking for ways to get buy-in from his group.
Deion Sanders Praises Dabo Swinney’s Approach
Addressing his team as they try to turn the page to the rest of the season, Sanders has drawn inspiration from a college coaching legend, Dabo Swinney. “I saw a statistic after Clemson lost, and that’s one of my favorite coaches, Dabo Swinney,” Sanders started. “He said, the last time they were one and two, they went on to finish, I believe, ten and two. Why not us?”
The message is clear: Coach Sanders is not ready to write off the season after a tough three-game stretch. He’s pushing his team to hear that message and to find a way forward.
A myriad of factors have led to Boulder’s slow start this season, but Sanders thinks those issues are fixable. “There are simplistic things that are going on that we can fix.”
Coach Sanders Aims to Eliminate Pressure
Above all else, Sanders knows that his team and players must stick together through this adversity if they are to turn this season around as he hopes they will. “I don’t ever want you to start blaming this person or blaming this person or blaming this person. Right now, we’re going to do something that we did in Colorado when I was there. We dreaded coming on Sundays because we knew Sundays were like a call-out day.”

From there, Sanders let the team know that instead of calling each other out, they would celebrate success stories as they work to get their season back on track. During this part of the team address, Sanders called out defensive back Tawfiq Byard, who had 14 total tackles and one pass defensed after a trying offseason.
Coach Sanders is working to help his team face its current adversity and grow from it, much like Clemson has done in the past. Colorado returns to action next week against Wyoming.
